So i was bored yesterday and thinking how much I'd like to set my rig up in stereo and began looking into converting my 2x12 mono cab to a stereo one. It doesn't seem to hard but i figured i should double check before i go cutting and soldering things. I have an 8ohm cab which is wired in parallel so that means I have 2 16ohm speakers. This is fine as my velocity power amp can run 16ohm, so no issues there. The cab has 2 inputs in the back with each speaker going to one input, and there is a small wire bridging the two terminals on each side. I guess this is avatars easy way of bridging speakers together. If I'm thinking about this correctly i should just be able to remove the two bridging wires and have each speaker running to its own input respectively netting me 2X 16ohm inputs instead of 2x8ohm mono inputs. Anyone who's good with wiring (cough Andrew cough) just double check me to make sure im right. Im going to go ahead and pickup another speaker cable today while im out so hopefully i can try this later today

Yep, that makes total sense to me - you'll end up with 2x16ohms as you say!

Let us know how it turns out ...

so I decided to get a little more fancy with it and got a DPDT switch so i can go from a mono cab to stereo cab with the flick of a switch, we'll see how that works out. gonna have to bust out the good ole multi-meter for this.

A DPDT switch is great idea. IT can really come in handy. Be sure to put a quality made and robust one.

Oh i did, heavy duty 10amp guy thats really beefy i don't foresee it having any problems. I just finished up about an hour ago and after some playing, I think this was a great choice. The stereo delay effects aren't the greatest obviously because you need a wider stereo field to get the most of that. However the chorus effects, pitch shifting, and reverbs have alot more depth and the notes stay clearer without getting muddy by all the effects. Highly recommended mod for anyone with a stereo power amp.
