Hey guys- anybody familair with young guitar magazine?

My friend scanned a bar of a Paul Gilbert riff for me, and i have no idea what the symbols below the tab mean!!

Any help?

Your guess is as good as mine, but if anybody has used the magazine before it'd be great to hear from you wink.gif

Cheers!

Looks to me like some type of Japanese or Chinese music symbols. Not sure. Have you tried to google one to see if it can be translated?

Since there are only 4 signs repeating my guess is that those are finger symbols wink.gif

Hehe, yeah, I am familiar with Young Guitar Magazin, I did many interviews with them over the years smile.gif It is a Japanese Magazin, focusing on guitars and guitarists obviously, so those signs under the tabs are normal Japanese letters, don't ask me though what they mean, my Japanese is EXTREMELY limited rolleyes.gif

ahhh...almost! tongue.gif

Thanks anyhow guys-

One would presume its the fingering, as Ivan said, there are 4 symbols. However- how i'd think this would be played bares no resemblance to what I'm presuming the symbols stand for number-wise. Very frustrating indeeed mad.gif

No man, the 2 on the low E string has a diffrent symbol, so if it's fingering than it makes perfect sense to me..

Ahh i think i have it....it is fingering.

i was wondering how that note on the low E had a different symbol when there was a note being played that same fret, adjacent string, with another finger....i didnt think about who's riff this was...

Paul likes using his thumb right ? tongue.gif

I also gotmy friend to send me a bunch of other samples, found some new symbols, but it didnt take long to figure out once i had the thumb bit sorted..

I feel kinda silly not getting it earlier... but i think i have it down now (for future refference for others):

If i'm wrong or you know better than me- let me know!! tongue.gif

Now you don't have to be scared when ordering young guitar mags off ebay wink.gif

(btw they use these symbols to show fingerings for chords too, prety cool, can look like this smile.gif

Sounds fine for me smile.gif Next time I see one of the editors I can ask about this, this will only happen though when we are touring Japan again, so be a bit patient wink.gif
