My friend scanned a bar of a Paul Gilbert riff for me, and i have no idea what the symbols below the tab mean!! Any help? Thanks anyhow guys- One would presume its the fingering, as Ivan said, there are 4 symbols. However- how i'd think this would be played bares no resemblance to what I'm presuming the symbols stand for number-wise. Posts: 2.700 Joined: 18-March 07 From: South Wales, UK	Ahh i think i have it....it is fingering. i was wondering how that note on the low E had a different symbol when there was a note being played that same fret, adjacent string, with another finger....i didnt think about who's riff this was... Paul likes using his thumb right ? I also gotmy friend to send me a bunch of other samples, found some new symbols, but it didnt take long to figure out once i had the thumb bit sorted.. I feel kinda silly not getting it earlier... but i think i have it down now (for future refference for others): If i'm wrong or you know better than me- let me know!!
