g is a grace note I believe. It means you play the first note but it is very quick. It is used in slides and hammer ons and pull offs where the first note is barely any length. It is sometimes called a passing note by some people.

So play the note and then go instantly to the next note.

I believe OC is right. There sometimes considered a ghost note which sometimes looks like (5).

It is played too fast to be a regular note but enough to be considered it is there. You can bend it, slide it, hammer on it etc.

Ghost Note Note is faint. The dynamics are decreased.

Grace Note It is a very short note before another note.
