For me a really good clean and mastered technique impresses me the most. A really good alternate picker is as astonishing as a really good tapper. Then ofcourse, the melodies are very important if you try to impress me.

I voted 8 finger tapping as-well smile.gif

But I love Sweep-Taps ,Great Alt. Picking (Paul Gilbert biggrin.gif) and Guitar Slapping- most notably in Chris Feeeners Eccentric Hillbilly Entry on G-Idol.

I already voted but I noticed that you may have missed one technique unless your counting it as Alternate Picking but if not you missed Tremelo Picking (I think thats the right word unsure.gif ) I was just litening to Van Halen and it made me think about it cool.gif

Tremolo picking isn't really a technique, a style rather. It's a way to use your alternate picking.

I Picked Legato.

Esp those long smooth Legato lines with one hand just blow me away most of the time

I voted fingerpicking. A guitarist that can rock some fingerpicking is cool in my book. Anyone familiar with the band 3? Their guitar player is sick, lots of riffing and shredding and its all fingerpicked. I'm going to do a review of the opeth show I saw in a day or two and I'll give some details, but this guy stole the show guitar wise. Besides an amazing fingerpicked acoustic solo he did his style was just great. While all of these other techniques are cool, picking is about as essential and basic as you can get on a guitar, and this guy proved to me that fingerpicking can do anything that alternate picking can do and more.

+1 Great Fingerpicking is amazing, and not so easily achieved.
