More Gain On Valveking...

hi guys and girls wink.gif

well i recently got a new amp for a birthday gift, its a peavey valveking 112

its an amazing amp for $400, way better than my fender frontman 15W...

but whenever i use my digitech grunge pedal on the effect loop with the clean channel, it sounds wayy too distorted (i dont have any experience with tube amps, but i think its because the tubes overdrive too when i use the pedal)

so, is there a way i can get a proper sound out of my digitech pedal, or simply a way to get more gain out of the lead channel?

You can run an overdrive on the dist channel to push the signal. You can even run a dist + an OD on the lead channel... nevee tried that myself, well I did once but never got it to sound good, but there are people using a setup like that. I was trying on an old JCM800 but I think people who does this use like 5150's to get gain that's mental. Just a guess.

Remove the grunge pedal from the loop and put it before the preamp (i.e. after the guitar) instead. Which is where one normaly would keep it.

I've got the grunge pedal too, it's just a bit too much imo but you can get a descent 80's metal sound out of it cool.gif

thank you, i never thinked about putting my grunge pedal before the amp

and you are right maybe its because there is too much gain in this pedal... an OD pedal should work fine smile.gif

Yeah that pedal should not be in the effects loop (its for chorus, delay etc) ..
Also your amp should be able to produce a very good distortion on its own, maybe you can try to use that pedal on the lead channel too push the amp even more..

That pedal is NOT for the effects loop. Put it in front of the amp as a booster pedal.

ok i understand now the purpose of an effect loop laugh.gif i never used an effect loop before yesterday...

but the grunge pedal have too much distortion to act as a boost for the lead
btw after eq-ing a bit the lead channel i had a nice metal tone out of it so im fine now
