Ah, look, an introduction board!

Much like OldManPete that introduced himself a bit further down this forum I started playing very late and these forums are very much part of an experiment to see if I can become a decent guitarist starting as late as I did smile.gif

I actually started playing when I was 9, took about 4 lessons before the instructor went on a tour and no replacement was found. So my dad tought me A, E, C, G and D and for some reason I never forgot those 5 chords smile.gif Every 2-4 years after this I would pick up my dad's nylon acoustic and try to learn some songs but beeing rather tonedeaf I couldnt pick out any songs myself and I usually gave up a couple of weeks later.

At the age of 34 (two and a half years ago) after trying out Guitar Pro and realizing that with this program there is help for the tonedeaf I decided to try for real. So, knowing the basic chords and some easy melodies I bought myself an Ibanez RG350EXBK and started practicing and at the same time I signed up for "RockSchool for adults". I decided to give it a year at first and if it felt hopeless after that I would quit for good.

Today, at the age of 36, I realized that with a little practice and experience, I wasn't tonedeaf after all (wish I 'd known that earlier maybe I wouldnt have given up all these times) I still am a less than (lot less, hehe) average guitarist but now I am less than average in one coverband and one band that does its own original music. I have played 3 live gigs and I am having a great time. My ambition is not to be noticed as a great guitarist, but to not be noticed as a sucky one. I mean, if I can make it through a song without people noticing me as a bad guitarist... thats enough for me smile.gif

I listen to almost all categories of music, Blues, Rock, Metal, Country, Folk, some pop, some rap, some disco, soul... pretty much anything except schlager, swedish danceband, electronica and big band jazz..

I play blues, rock and metal smile.gif

My gear:
Gibson Les Paul Special with an EMG 81 at bridge position
Line6 PodXT Live
Behringer V-Amp2 (for sale)
Peavey Valveking 212 (for sale)
Boss Metalzone Pedal (for sale)
Behringer EQ Pedal (for sale)

Welcome! It takes a lot of experience to be able to pick out a song and hear what's correct and what's not. More for some than for others, took me quite some years before I could play a chord progression instantly as I heard it. If it has to do with better ears over the years or experience from playing hundereds of songs applying their different progressions since "I heard it before and it fits into this song" I don't know.
