If you are using the standard tuning your 09's should be ok, for downtuned things the strings will most likely get to sloppy. And don't worry about your fingers hurting after some practice, specially if you do a lot of bending, after some days of practice your fingers will get back in shape smile.gif

Im using ernie ball 08 in my Kramer striker for more shredding and I think they r the best.
My bc rich Virgin has 09 and my Epiphone zakkwylde Bullseye has boomers 10 but I don't like the particular brand and I think Ill change them to ernie ball.

It deppends wiodely on the style of music you´re playing, if the tunning is down try harder gauge, SRV for example tuned in Eb and used 0.13, numetal guys are fond of 0.11 and 0.12, jazzers of 0.11 0.12 0.13, speed metal like lighter, Malmstenn uses 0.8, also lighter gauge make it easier string bending. but also they are easier to break, for rhythm guitar very light gauge is not so good with bassie string when playing chords. Lighter gauge are also good for tapping if also low action is provided.
Another factor you need to decide is what action level you´ll wan to use.

I used to have 10, now I'm doing 11... I was playing on a guitar in the guitar shop couple of days ago and it was so easy! :| So I think I'll just play these 11's till they have died peacefully and then go back to 10.

Is there a topic of string-brands yet?

I use d'addario .10-46 for standard tuning and d'addario .10-52 for the drop tuning in SOUTHWORLD.
Going lighter will definately help out but at a loss for tone in my opinion. String gauge definately affects your tone.
Not to worry! Nothing a bit of EQ on your amp can't fix.
Going lighter will also help build strength in your hand, it won't get sore as often. If it gets sore though take a break
straight away don't play through the pain........I did that once! And ended up not being able to play for a while
that really sucked! A sore hand and no guitar! Playing guitar should be enjoyable cool.gif

Best thing would be to try few different gauges and brands as well.
It's very complex thing to match with your gear, style of music you're playing etc.
And even when you think you have a match, you might change something again and again.
But yeah,009-042 is most "standard" gauge I guess. smile.gif
