Well, I've been seeing the sweeping lessons to improve mine but I feel like i'm getting the same stuff for the last month. I know it's a technique that envolves lots of time and practise but I would like to hear some suggestions.

Thanks smile.gif

The easistest and fastest way to give you help would be if you posted a sweeping attempt of yours. However, I know that it doesn't feel right doing that when you don't really feel confident with the technique.

I would say mastering sweeping consists of two main things

1 Mastering the arpeggio motion with your left hand up to tempo (sweeping is usually done with arpeggios)

2 Mastering the synchronization between your both hands, this is very important - you don't want it to sound like you are strumming a chord.

What I do is that I try to practice number one only with my left hand, with hammer-ons. I find that it gives me best "string-isolation" sound.

Then I practice doing with both hands.

Hope it helps! smile.gif

Thanks Kris...Well, I do feel like I'm strumming a chord but it's not because of the synchronization, it's because i can't mute the strings properly, already heard about using palm mutting but I either mute the next string or I don't mute none at all...That's what makes me stuck :/

I'm practicing sweep since a month.
I can suggest you David Walimann's lesson "Sweeping basics" especially the fisrt spoken video where David explains very well what does this technique work smile.gif It should help you like it was useful for me smile.gif

To Kris : Hey, i was wondering one day, how long does it take to you to master the sweeping ? Because i've noticed that you didn't use this technique (or maybe not so often) one year ago yet smile.gif (maybe i'm wrong huh.gif )

cheers smile.gif

I remember that I was studying sweeping for a long time, and then one day finally I understand the correct way and that day I really learn HOW to do the sweep picking.
IMHO the key is in your right hand. We usually focus on our left hand but that's absolutely wrong.

The key is to practise alot on focus on the technice first and make sure that you are doiung it right and that it sounds clean.... It might be difficult in the beginning but once you know the technice speed will come automaticly

Try to really slow down the tempo and play whole notes @ 60bpm. Then be VERY careful to pick the string immediately when you fret it, and HOLD IT ringing until the next note needs to be fretted. If you overcome this slow motion on slow tempos, you'll improve a whole lot faster.
