So I just got my Toneport in the mail today, and I just installed all the software and stuff, and I got the "Gearbox" program up and running. But I can't figure out how to record anything!

I was under the impression that this software took care of everything???

Do I need to buy some other program to do the recording? or does Windows have something that does that?

thanks!

-Chris

Well you need a recording software...There is free software called Reaper that will do great ...You can install any other recording software too like Cubase , Nuendo , Acid etc but the are not free...

Also I think you should get Audicity recorded software bundled with toneport ?

You need another program to actually record what you hear,
I recommend you Reaper:

Good luck smile.gif

ummm I went to Reapers website, and it wasn't free... It's just free for an "evaluation period"???

Is that as free as it gets?

ok I have Reaper up and running. But how do I get the Toneport software to "talk" to Reaper???

I read through Tonymiro's lesson on getting started with Reaper, but it really didn't go over how to use the Toneport in conjunction with Reaper.

could somebody point a very confused man in the right direction?

Thanks,

Chris

I am not a Reaper user, but there must be some preferences option, and you need to add the toneport asio drivers to Reaper.

On each track there will be an option for input to track and output. You need to set input to stereo toneport ux1 and then you can record stuff in track smile.gif

Here'w the deal mate:

Toneport has 4 sends - 4 (independent stereo) channels that it sends to your DAW software (via USB cable). In Gearbox you have probably noticed on the left side that you have a combo box where you can choose options like instrument, microphone, instrument and microphone, line in etc.. Well here's how the Toneport works:

When you choose INSTRUMENT then Toneport sends 2 signals to your DAW. One signal is on the SEND 1, and the other signal is on the SEND 3 channel. (SEND 2 and 4 are empty).

SEND 1 - the signal with effects from Gearbox
SEND 3 - signal bypassed from effects, just plain guitar.

When you choose MICROPHONE the situation is the same as in the INSTRUMENT case, only this time you use microphone.

WHen you choose INSTRUMENT & MICROPHONE the combo is like this:

SEND 1 - guitar with gearbox modeling
SEND 2 - guitar bypassed
SEND 3 - microphone with gearbox modeling
SEND 4 - microphone bypassed

So when you start Reaper you go to preferences menu, and choose ASIO Toneport UX1 driver as your primary soundcard/driver. Then you choose your inputs in the Reaper. If you see somewhere SEND 1, 2, 3 or 4 now you know what they represent.
