Okay, I'm a very big fan of both Megadeth and Metallica. But why do most people hate Megadeth so much? I've had people tell me that Megadeth are just a rip off from Metallica, and Dave Mustaine pinches alot of the metallica Riffs and just puts variations on them.

I know thats not true, yeah he may own the rights to some of the stuff that he wrote, such as the song Mechanix is basically Four Horsemen, but slightly different.

So whats you're opinions on this Megadeth and Metallica issue?

The four horsemen was written by dave while he was in metallica and just changed title and lyrics for mechanix because metallica claimed the rights of The Four Horsemen.

The reason there's rivalry between metallica and megadeth fans is that dave mustaine was metallica's guitarist on most of kill em all and some of ride the lightning but they fell out with him for various reasons and dave set up megadeth to try and be better than metallica, and he claims they stole some of his riffs, while metallica claim he stole some of theirs. Personally, i like them both and i don't see why so many people who are megadeth/metallica fans seem to think they have to not like the other band.

Yeah I agree with you. Both bands are musically talented, It's just soo many people hate megadeth just because of Dave Mustaine, and It's quite silly in my eyes. You like a band for the music, not for the person thats in it.

Well, what can I say? Intelligence is necessary in order to find something constructive to do. Unfortunately many people lack it in the amount to achieve this state, and waste theirs and ours time in futile "debates" where main arguments are that someone is true/great/awesome and others are "poo". Just rise above it, life is to short to wonder about such behaviors.

I actually have high respect for Dave Mustaine, He came out from drug addiction and a serious nerve injury and returned to make some amazing albums and just bettered himself. I've heard a lot of people don't like him, Cause he became christian.....Which to me is just.....Well stupid.

The issue about hating 1 band because you like another is just dumb. Dave Mustaine had very close ties with Metallica which probably would cause alot of songs to sound similar. I love MegaDeth, live they blew my mind, and their albums blow my mind. I like alot of Metallicas stuff too. To say that MegaDeth is a rip off of metallica is outragious. IMO Mega Deth is alot better than Metallica. I would listen to Symphony of Destruction and Holy Wars before i listened to Master of Puppets and Enter Sandman. My major problem with metallica is their stuff gets very repetitive very fast. I apoligize to people who like Master of Puppets.. but the main riff is over played. They need to stop playing the same thing over and over to make the song longer and just get it out there and let people play the song again if they wanna hear the riff again. also.. Marty Friedman + Mustaine completely destroys any solos played by Metallica smile.gif

I see, to tell the truth that's quite a good idea, because on GMC You won't get poor answers, only good/mature ones ( hmm, maybe besides mine;) ). I read such topic on one of polish forums, and GODS, that was terrible...

I heard they fired Dave for drinking but if thats true then it shouldnt be fair because they all probably drank and got wasted. Personally I think there both good but I like megadeth way better.

Yeah, thats one of the resons I love the GMC Community, straight, decent and honest opinions.

Personally, anyone that appreciates music should appreciate what Dave has done with Megadeth over the years. Both are two of the big metal/trash bands around. They are both musically talented, so I can't see why people bitch about Megadeth. They may not like the vocals, or dave. But surely they should appreciate and give him credit for the musicallity and technicallity involved in the music. Both are phenomanal bands respectivley.

why not songs from Ride the Lightening and Rust in Peace.. that way you have an album from both bands.. unless your suggesting those two albums because that is when dave was in metallica?
