For serious high-octane blues shred, check out Michael Schenker. He can set the pentatonic scale on fire. The guy has a great sense of melody with some classical flavoring thrown into the mix. MSG and UFO are good representations of Michaels' killer style. The Scorpions' Lovedrive album features him on some killer cuts, also. Michael has been down on his luck according to the latest Guitarworld article. I hope the guy can make a comeback because he's a very influential player in a style similar in some respects to Gary Moores'.
