Hmm it doesn't seem so bad after all, i'm already getting used to it. The only issue i'm having at the moment (apart from control and speed and strength tongue.gif ok so there's a few haha) or worry if you like is sometimes i can't tell whether my bend is all in the wrist or whether i'm naturally pushing with my fingers as well. I'm trying my hardest to keep my fingers relaxed and in a locked position.

Ivan i'm afraid i didn't understand what you mean by don't curve your fingers as they have to curve to go round the fretboard.

Sorry man my english is not great smile.gif

I meant keep them locked as you said, and they do need to be curved, but couldn't find the right expression so I wanted to write something with a meaning "don't change the curve while you bend" if you know what I wanted to say. I hope this makes sense... smile.gif

It seems to me that you spotted on the right way to do it, it's all down to practice now. Cheers mate smile.gif

yea, that's exactly what I mean. His vibrato has soul, it's controlled and it sounds great! but Janis... he just whizz his fingers around and hopes for the best... it sounds terrible in comparison.

Well, now I know why my attempts at vibrato look like a girl playing a violin. biggrin.gif

I agree!
I haven't heard much of Jani before though, but he looks a little nervous in this vid. Maybe his vibrato usually is better? smile.gif

I sure hope so, but you can really see his motion. That won't change, just the amount of control. One thing I disslike about Syu is that his picking isn't perfect, I mean, it's clean and cool... but it's too bright and a tad too scratchy. Well, he's badass anyway, he can shred with soul and he's a good songwriter biggrin.gif But you can really tell the difference a good vibrato makes in that video. It's a lot more important than Jani playing 32 note triplets and syu going for 32 notes maximum or something like that.

Vibrato is just one of those things that is preference, i don't belive there is a wrong way as long as you can get it to sound the way you want.

Me personally i take a third approach to vibrato, i like to move the guitar in conjunction with finger vibrato, it gives it a kind of elipitical vibrato that is not quite like circular vibrato, but it isnt up and down either. Its more like vibrato used on a cello as opposed to a violin.
