Ok, I'm planning to buy a new guitar. I'm wanting an ESP as i've always wanted an ESP for years, I'll be coming into some money soon so I'm going to purchase one.

What I wanted to know is, Is their any major difference between the LTD models and the normal ones?

Well, the very low-price LTD's obviously are not so good as the ESP's, but the more high-budget LTD's are really good and the features usually are very similar than those of the ESP's smile.gif

Pretty much my understanding aswell. LTD is built in Korea, at least the high end ones. (maybe all)

LTD series is great if you don't go below -400 models. i love mine, set neck with easy access to upper frets, EMG 81/85 pickup set, stays in tune well and has nice action. some day i still want to get a real esp with set-thru neck and ebony fretboard... but it hasn't been able to fit in my budget yet, and i'm more concerned with investing in amps atm.

Features are practically the same, but the difference in price is reflected on the quality of the guitar, ESP should just feel like a better made instrument. That said, the LTD Deluxe series guitars are notorious for being very good, and being that the pickups are usually EMGs, the sound difference would probably only be subtle. But if you have the money go ESP, quality is always worth the money imo.

Similar to Gibson vs Epiphone. Better than Fender vs Squier.

I've seen fewer complaints about quality variability in LTD's vs Epiphones though.

That sign. sucks. It only has one pickup man. Talk about zero versatility.

Versality is good.
Most of the time.

Ever heard the saying:

That guitar is built for one purpose only, a masters instrument.

Wonder why I never see any other 'pros' with one pickup then.

One pickup is absolutly ok, remember: you can get versality through your amp/rigg also. I got the Alexi-600 btw and its a brilliant guitar, one of the best I got. As Alexi-600 are one of the more expensive LTD it has all the same features of the ESP version, and LTD-stockprice is 1500$, white ESP-stockprice is 4000$. You dont gain that much for paying over double as much but its mostly the quality of the wood and the craftmanshift that is better.

And there are btw several artist using only one pickup, if you look around at ESP's site you will for example discover that RoB Arnold of Chimaira, Matt Devries of Chimaira, Max Cavalera of Soulfly/Cavalera Conspiracy, Roope Latvala of Children of Bodom and Wayne Static of Static-X all use JUST ONE PICKUP in their signature guitars so saying "Wonder why I never see any other 'pros' with one pickup then" is just silly tongue.gif

1 high output pickup in the bridge position is what you want if you want to do some high gain shreddin, and make the pinches and other harmonics really scream. for people like Alexi Laiho, thats pretty much all he does, so why bother using a pickup, or a mix of pickups, that doesn't have the same level of output? I have an 81/85 set but i'm almost always on the bridge pickup only, unless i'm playing through a really bass-less preset or tone, then i'll add the 85 for some warmth. But i could easily see only using the 81 if i had a good amp with thick tone that i used exclusively, like he probably does.

On other artists, off the top of my head i've seen the guys from Chimaira and Lamb of God frequently use single pickups in their guitars.

I guess, basically, if you're playing the more extreme sorts of metal, through amplifiers with cranked pre-amps and all that, the tone of your pickups has a minimal difference, its all about how much they can scream when you need them to. If you want versatility, get a combo of pickups of course, if you dont plan on playin hi-gain style guitar, get some passives like a pair of Seymour Duncans.

On that note, if price isnt an issue, i'd get Mike Amotts signature Ninja-x guitar (now comes 22+24 fret and trem and non-trem versions) cause it not only looks awesome, but has a really nice pair of seymour duncans that will give you a lot more dynamic tone possibilities.

If you don't understand that you get different sound characteristics out of the different body positions, you don't know much buddy, sorry.

All of the Wayne Static signature guitars are single pickup guitars too, I think.

As with everything else in guitars, it comes down to personal taste.

Ideally, I'd rather have a wider range of guitars, each with a different sound and character and play the "right" one for the job when I need it.

Financially though, I can't support that level of GAS, so I try to keep an eye on everything I get to be as versatile as possible. My Roadstar has a H-S-S config that is pretty versatile going from Strat-ish sounds to heavier meatier sounds with a really low action. The ESP is semi-hollow and has an interesting set of pickups in an H-H config with a higher action so I can bend more but isn't as versatile as the Ibanez is. They Daisy Rock guitar's not very subtle but it has some character to it and is fun to mess around with. They will probably be my only guitars for quite a while. The flexibility I have between them is pretty great, I think and shoudl be able to support what I want to do for a long time unless I start looking for a specific tone again...

If some people prefer one pickup let them prefer it man, you don't have to put them down just because they have different preferences than you. That kind of attitude is not very appreciated here. We're getting pretty close to being off topic also.

That's not a reply to what I said.
