I have been looking to buy a new guitar for awhile now and recently I played a PRS SE and really liked it. I was just looking for information on it and other people's opinions.

It sounds and plays amazing. However it detunes really fast and it's super annoying. My teacher has one aswell and he fixed something with the nut on the guitar and now he says it's a lot better, so it can be fixed and it's easy to fix it. (but not really neccisarry unless you wanna trust it 100% at a gig, and you could still gig with it without fixing that, but you just need to check the tuning a lot.)

That's basically the only problem I have with my PRS SE and I recommend it. It sounds awesome and it's cheap compared to how it sounds. So if you want one, I suggest you get one, just be aware of that minor problem I mentioned.

Thanks for the input Fsgdv.

I have herd that the tuning can be a problem but the guitar I have now goes out of tune so fast that I don't even bother tuning it anymore. =/

Hopefully I will get to go back to Guitar Center sometime this week and play it some more.

I've seen different pick-ups in it. What is the difference between the soap bars and the humbuckers?

Well, the soapbars are single coils and the humbuckers are humbuckers, so it's just up to preference. I have a PRS SE Custom, so that's with humbuckers and I love them. I suppose it's just about what sound you want out of it and what style you play.

I use mine for metal/rock and I'm happy with it. Works well for clean sounds aswell, but I don't know that much about what the soap bars are especially good for. My teacher has a soapbar though, and I've only heard him say good things about it. (except that tuning thing wich he solved, maybe try to ask them in the store if they can do something about it right when you buy it? even though it's not a huge deal)

Thanks again for the help.

I talked to another guy that said the SE was kind of like a combination of the LP and the stratocaster. The guitar I play now is kind of like a strat and I really like the LPs. Maybe this would be a good guitar for me.

I'm a big fan of Zelda. Especially Ocarina of Time.

I actually had one for a little while, it sounded and played well, but the frets on mine wore out very quickly, and certain frets went from not buzzing at all, to totally fretting out when I tried to bend the note.

The other issue was with the tuning, the machine heads were rather poor. But all this is expected from a Korean made, moderately priced guitar.

Try see if you can find a used or cheaper American made(or import of equal quality) guitar, the higher build quality will give you more hours of playtime.

I have heard mostly good things about the SE Customs, but people have said that it makes a big difference to upgrade to locking tuners, especially the ones with the tremolo bar ie the Paul Allender and the SE Custom go out of tune quickly, the locking tuners come standard on the Customs 22/24 though I believe

I don´t know where you live so I´m not entirely sure about the price. But there is a Dutch site that sells schaller (6l) starting at 89 euro's. after that the price even get's higher.

I tried a SE when I went on a try-all-the-guitars-in-the-freakin-world spree a couple of weeks ago and I thought the SE was about average. It had a little buzzing though, and I can back up what people say about the tuners, though I don't know whether it is worth it or not to buy locking tuners. But in my opinion, the american-made gimmic makes a gigantic difference. I thought it was a myth or a status symbol or something, but it's true. The quality of guitars improved dramatically. Next time youre at the store, try out an Ibanez (not american made, but ibanez is a japanese company afterall), an american strat, and a gibson lp studio. see which one you like best and save for it. Just my advice.

Squier strat (probably going to get rid of it and get another guitar instead) :)
Line 6 spider amp (not actually used for anything, just acts as a speaker)
Digitech Gnx2 (kind of old, but cheap, and sounds amazing!)
