hey muris,
i was just wondering how you go about learing scales and modes?
do you learn them in one position, all over the neck, or do you hear differnt scales?
im having some trouble myself becoming more familiar with scale boxes do you have any suggestions?

Im no muris.... but i used to have problems learning them too... I just made up little exercises in each box and it helped me learn them fast.. then i added boxes to my exercise... Just start playing around with one box and make up some pattern that sounds cool to you.. then expand it to the other boxes, do one for each box, then try to expand the exercise to all the boxes.. Hope this helps, but id be interested to see what muris has to say about how he learned them too...

Thanks for input Outlaw2112! smile.gif

To be honest,
I can remember how did I learn certain scales
cause it was pretty long time ago.
I guess I started with a box or two
and than expanding it over whole fretboard.

I know I did play tons of scales but mostly
as a picking exercises or som,
tho at the same time I was memorizing
fingering as well.
And after a while you're actually thinking
about 7 notes only (or 5 if it's pentatonic scale)
cause you know where those notes
are on the whole fretboard, any string.

So my answer to your question is almost like
repeating your words.
learn it one position, expand to whole fretboard
but be sure to hear how different types of scales sound. smile.gif

Play the seven boxes up and down until you know 'em by heart. that's really the best way. I learned them in one night, and I never forgot either.

sorry to butt in Muris biggrin.gif
Bet you've become too experienced to remember this anyway tongue.gif:P
