Thanks for input Outlaw2112!
To be honest, I can remember how did I learn certain scales cause it was pretty long time ago. I guess I started with a box or two and than expanding it over whole fretboard. I know I did play tons of scales but mostly as a picking exercises or som, tho at the same time I was memorizing fingering as well. And after a while you're actually thinking about 7 notes only (or 5 if it's pentatonic scale) cause you know where those notes are on the whole fretboard,any string. So my answer to your question is almost like repeating your words. learn it one position,expand to whole fretboard but be sure to hear how different types of scales sound. -------------------- Youtube
