Folk Viking stuff that I really love:

Tyr
Eluveitie (Slania is the best 08 album for me)
Ensiferum just like Lian
Wintersun
Turisas is also great

For more personal list:
Immolation- Best Death Metal band for me. All there release gets better every year.

Hail Of Bullets- My best for brand new Death Metal act of 08

Belphegor- Blackened Death Metal mastery. If you think bands like Nile are Brutal, then you haven't touched Death Metal to the fullest yet. This band combines that very dark and evil blasphemy sound and lyrics of black metal, and combine it with the heaviest of the fastest riffs from hell. Top it off with the roar of SATAN!!!!!!

3 Inches Of Blood- Very catchy Heavy Metal music. Oh man this band can wale. Fire Up The Blades will permanently leave your fingers in the devil horn stance.

Arghoslent- the lyrics are racist, but the music and definitely the riffs are great. This guys can do no wrong when it comes to writing music.

Morbid Angel- The masters of brutality. Along with Immolation, this guys cannot possibly write a bad album. Altars of Madness and Covenant still remains a classic death metal albums in my book.

If you want diversity get Ayreon on your Ipod.

But do yourself a favor and put a whole album on it.
