i decided to do some theory and finally take chords seriously (ive been able to do major E string barre chords for years, and all the main open ones).

im confused though are 7ths and maj7s the same?

i.e is E7 the same as Emaj7? to me it would make sense they would as Emajor is usually referred to as just E.

most teaching sites teach the 7th and the minor 7th, so am i to assume that 7 means the major 7th?

sorry if it sounds dumb but its bugging me.
