Hi!

My name is Ken (stratoblaster) and I just signed up a few days ago.

I started playing guitar a looong time ago when everyone was into folk music about 1961. Bought a classic guitar with some cash from my paper route and started learning Peter Paul and Mary songs. I had fun but never really learned to play guitar.

A few years later I bought a 12-string and took a few lessons. Unfortunately the 12 just wasnt a great guitar and my teacher turned out to be one of those guys who would send his students home every week with a page of 12 chords to learn within 7 days. No licks, no songs... I look back and beleive that he really hated kids. I sure hated him!

In 1970 I bought my first Martin, a D-18, and started teaching myself again, attempting to pick up licks from records and trying to play slide like Ry Cooder. Luckily, I ran in to the Delta Blues and therein began my personal odyessy.

Over the next couple of decades, I owned several Martins (D-18, D-41, OM-28, etc.) none of which I could bond with, and found a 1931 National Steel 'Don" model. Now THAT was a guitar!! Right about 1982 I really dug in and began working my way through Stephan grossman's books and records and with the aid of my National, I learned enough to play a bunch of Blues standards "Just like on the records" but unfortunately, that really isnt "learning guitar". I ended up selling off my instruments (All except the Natinal.) and quitting.

Then, last Winter I inherited a couple of guitars, (A cheap folk guitar and an Epiphone Strat copy complete with practice amp.) and began playing again. One thing led to another and at this point I have an Epiphone 500RA accoustic (The best accoustic guitar I've ever owned. You gotta try one!), an EJ Strat, a couple of Squier 51s and three or four amps. I've even built a 1/2 watt Gilmore Jr! Luckily my GF was once married to a professional musician and she fully supports my musical interests. In fact it was she who pushed me into buying the EJ strat! Loll!!

I did try private lessons again this spring without success and then stumbled onto this site. I've been doing the pentatonic scale workouts and already my playing is improving and things that I was playing 30 years ago are coming back. I really like the fact that I can take as many lessons as I like, move along at myown speed and review things as many times as necessary. Plus, the instructors make everything very clear.

My personal goal is to learn enough about Electric Blues Guitar within the next year or so to begin playing with other people next Spring. Here in N.Cal (I'm 1 hr North of SF.) we have a very active Blues scene and I want to be part of it.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking some lessons and making a few new friends.
