when i'm play 3 note per string and my 1 picking note start with downstroke..so thats like downstroke upstroke downstroke

but when i'm skiping to nex Higer string i'm strat again with downstroke{my fingers just looking for shortes distance}
when i'm go to the lower string everythink is ok rolleyes.gif
until time when i'm be play 1 note by upstroke and i'm be going to lower string..my fingers is aslo looking for shortes way

it's a cheat?? it's a still alternate picking??? or some kind of hybrid economy alternate??
do i'm try to avoid that???or not?? it's there some disadvantage playing like that?? or advantage???

Thank you biggrin.gif

If you mean that when you play 3 notes per string you play D U D and o the next string you do D U D again this is not AP. When you play AP it shoud strict U D U D etc. Try corecting this right away so you are doing it right

That is actually economy picking
and you use it only for ascending lines if I got you right.
Now,if you're goal is pure alternate then you might call it a cheating.
But if you're goal is to play certain lick and you've found economy picking
like the best way to do it then it's not cheating at all,
you did it as you did.
Just watch out for your goals, that's all. smile.gif

heh when i'm training this on my 1 year playing history i'm never recognize that with my crazy spedd until today biggrin.gif

yeaahh for sure on lick economy will be verry usefuel but i'm find this just today when i'm training aternate mad.gif smile.gif

i'm also find my self do vibrato diferently like most people do..actualy what i'm do is i'm like shaking my fingers from left to right side{no up-down} which made me nice vibrato biggrin.gif ..but that kind of vibrato do not work for me when i'm bending

Yeah, that kind of vibrato is called horizontal one
and doesn't work with bends as you said,
so try to incorporate vertical vibrato in your playing as well.
Same with your picking, both are good, alternate and economy,
learn them both and be sure to realize when you're using which one,
otherwise it's kind a playing on blind. smile.gif

yeaahh you right..i'm will trying allready incorporate vertical vibrato on my plaing when i'm try use that on bend...becouse on normal position the vertical vibrato works fro me well...actualy for sure on same kind of playing be good alternate and for some economy.

i'm litle mad to my self to playing Alternate almost every day{for 6 month probaly} alternate like that..now my fingers has some kind of memory for my bad training of alternate...but the good way is i'm was find i't now and no later so i'm be have more time to avoid that mellow.gif

I think it's nice to practise alternate picking and economy picking.
Sweeping motion is really hard to get used to, so if you do it from start, you may have less trouble with it.

It is always good to practice economy and alternate picking both at the same time Besip man, so try to do the same exercise now ascending and do it AP, and start with upstroke and downstroke as well. This way you will cover all the combinations of picking motions when transferring strings and this is very important for future learning. Everything will be a lot easier then in a long run.

Hi Besip, this is type of picking is economy, not alternate, it gives you a different sound, but also the ability to play other licks at blazing speed.

Have you ever seen Frank Gambale, he is the true master of this tecnique, and it is not easy to get it to his level. If you want to do alternate, practice it, but don't walk away from this, if you are already developing it keep doing it.

That is my advice

Check out thisFrank Gambale video on this tecnique

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=r-QU4JTx80s

Then check how he amazingly combines this tecnique with arpeggios, and sweeps in this song, it starts slow but around minute 2:48 he starts demostrating his shredding abilities

You will not get that Gilbertesque agressive sound when using economy picking.
It will be Gambale smooth. wink.gif

QUOTE ("Steve Vai")
Start by playing something - a bend, a riff, a scale, a song - very slowly; if you make a mistake, start over; do this over and over, until you can play it flawlessly - and I do mean flawlessly - many times in a row. Next, gradually increase the tempo. Eventually you'll be flailing like a madman.

I would give the same advice as Jose did about your vibrato as well....if you are doing a horizontal vibrato and you like it continue to develop it, just find a way to get good vibrato on bends.

I am not sure on all Professional guitarists that use this vibrato type, but one person that comes to mind is George Lynch, this is his vibrato style that horizontal vibrato. Its not wrong just personal preference.

But you are right it doesnt work so hot on bends. It can be done but it is very difficult, you need some strong fingers to pull it off.

Daniel

Thanks all of you so betwen the economy and alternate picking is the main point diferent sound???...actualy it'sthere some recomendations play that licks by economy and this lick by alternate???{or thats just personal preference}

To Daniel--yes horizontal vibrato on my case sound verry better like the clasic vibrato...but will se maybe when i'm mastering the clasic vibrato on bend i'm wil transfer that technique to my basic playing

Not only the sound, but the actual overall effectiveness of your playing will be a lot better covered with both AP and EP.
