Hello guys, I've got a Toneport GX and some spare money... would you recommend me to get a POD? I must admit that I'm not 100% content with the sound I get from the Gearbox program I got with the Toneport... but then I don't know that much about recording I would appriciate any help and information about the differences I will agree with Fran on this one. POD and Toneport have the same sounds. The only difference is that POD has some added sounds that comes free with it. For these amp models and effects you will have to pay to upgrade gearbox a bit. As from recently, Line 6 has stopped calling the Toneport "Toneport" and changed the name into "POD Studio". I think this tells you that these things are the same basically. I use Toneport/Gearbox for all my work currently and it serves me well. It took me some time to really get to know the device - around 7-8 months. After that I could dial in anything I wanted cause I know how the components will behave. I suggest you spend some time with the unit, and tweak the presets as much as you can. You will find some good ones as time passes by. Also, a bit recording practice will not harm you as well. All these things are needed if you wanna get a good sound, so practice and use the units and you will get to know them. For distorted tones the POD 2.0 sucks IMO.
