Hi all.

It´s been a while since i last changed my strings but a few days ago my high E-string disrupted so i had to get a new set of strings. Everything worked perfect up to now. I started learning trond´s Canon Rock Lesson (which is great btw) and noticed in the second part that i´m not able to do pinch harmonics anymore....it´s like i was trying to do PHs for the very first time. All i can do is a really quiet squeak, but that´s absolutely not as loud as it was with my old strings So does this have anything to do with my new strings? Do i have to wait until i can do PHs on them or does the spot where PHs work differ from string set to string set?

It is possible that you haven't quite used to pinching on your new set of strings. I suggest you put some effort in practicing pinched on a new set, and if that doesn't work, just don't take that set of strings anymore. Maybe it's a worse set for pinching than the previous one.

You definitely don't need old strings to get pinch harmonics, this also has to work with brand new ones, so this can't be the reason. I agree with Ivan here, keep pracicing them on those strings, and if for whatever reason you can't get them, then go for different strings next time, but as I said, it should work.

Or stick with these strings, as otherwise you have to 'relearn' it on the old brand as well tongue.gif

So some brand strings work better for pinch harmonics? If so, what brand?

I think it is possible that some string sets don't work well for pinching as some other strings sets, but in the end it is all a matter of getting a proper technique down.
Different string sets play a very minor role in getting a proper pinched harmonics sound.

Hmm weird, try pinching somewhere else, I mean when you do the pinch harmonic, try it somewhere else slightly more towards the neck or the bridge, maybe the gauge is different, the location of the harmonics is not the same (check intonation).

No.
They're natural harmonics, so they gotta be pinched at the right place.
This is how PH's work.

You gotta pinch all over until you find the right harmonic.

If more help needed, I can show you on msn.

I hear my PHs even without an amp, so that shouldn't matter tongue.gif
