That's bizarre, that's similar to how my friend got some game (I think its Bioshock or something like that) like a week early.

Don't think anyone's likely to sue over the early release.

These days, it could be part of a marketing activity for all I know. Metallica should me more worried if people suddenly aren't interested in pirating it, I think.

It's still Metallica, so I'll buy it. I'm hoping that Amazon will sell MP3's but I'll buy it off iTunes if that'll be the only way to get it without the CD.

That's bad news sad.gif But for such famous bands its really bound to happen (leaks etc, like with last RHCP album)...I imagine those lucky guys who got the original cd 2 week early - happiness never end smile.gif
Can't wait for the release so I can listen to the album!

It is always the same these days, any album is online on p2p networks weeks before the official release, i really dislike this sad.gif And about this frensh shop, I am more than sure that this is not officially planed by the band, the album was supposed to get a worldwide release on september 12th, why should they release it earlier only in France???

P2P networks spoil the fun as well. What's better than going on release date and picking up the new album fresh off the shelves and sticking it loud on your home player. MP3's sound appaling usually especially pre release p2p mp3's. Hate Piracy and Support Music and all that.

Yeah piracy definitely kills the joy of purchasing a new CD ,going to the store, unwrapping it , checking the booklet , listening it on your stereo for the first time..I mean its a joy...It kills it at least for some people, I always buy original! smile.gif

Piracy really grates my carrot!!
It really has negative effects on the industry as a whole, and takes hard earned cash right out of the artists pocket.
Support your favourite artists by paying for the products. If you like it buy it that's what i say!
By not paying for albums etc. it really makes things hard for your favourite band/artist to tour and release more albums for example.

GMC Lessons and practicing... an off-topic thread goes more off-topic. wink.gif

Anyway, my 2 cents: If I like the music I buy, if no I don't... but I've to listen first... mainly on the radio, sometimes P2P.

Piracy did bad on music market in the past... nowadays I'm not sure... there's people that's says is helping the market. I don't know, but in my situation it's true: I never stop buying a CD 'cause it's also on the P2P net, but P2P helped sorting out what to buy... like if I were at the store listening to the CD's

Anyway this not the topic.

Cheers

This isn't the first time I hear about piracy ruining a release. I remember for example when Nightwish got their new vocalist, and the Amaranth music video was leaked out on the internet like 5 days before so that the whole surprise went straight to hell. dry.gif

I use P2P to check out bands before buying. I have so many bands that I want to check out that I would be spending way too much. If I like the couple of songs I download, then I go out and buy the album. P2P is good and bad... For the people that appreciate and support the artists and use it as a tool to find new bands, then it's great, but that's probably only 1% of the users.

This is very sad. I agree with bogdan about the "buying the cd of your favourite band" ritual.
I think that it's an error to realise an album earlier in some countries than others. The fans can't wait to the realise date if they know that they can download it earlier.

Bad news for Metallica indeed. This will indeed cost them a lot. Piracy is sure a major problem, and it does spoils the fun of having original CD including all that comes with it.

On the other hand, as CD is now already old and not to practical medium, they should invent some other form of distributing and selling. Can't think of any other form, but technology is moving fast, and very soon the same thing that happened to vinyls, tapes and cassettes is bound to happen to CD as well.
