Hey I'm RIP Dime, but my real name is Jeff, some people call me Ace....ok enough about what to call me lol. I'm from Hawaii, and am a senior in high school(GO MULES!!).

I've been playing guitar for about 8 months, and for about the first 4 or 5 months I was very bad. The first breakthrough I had was when I saw Kris' first video on Ultimate-Guitar.com. That helped me SOOO much, and inspired me to practice seriously smile.gif. But it wasn't till I saw Kris' video improvisational madness that I was able to wrap my head around the concept of improvising and composing my own music.

I've basically learned how to play guitar from 3 major sources:
Kris' free video's from UG
Dimebag Darrel's Riffer Madness
Marty Friedman's Melodic Control

And of course learning other guitarist's riffs and solos.

I learned about riffing, harmonizing, evil intervals, weird movable diads, and making weird and wonderful noises from Riffer Madness.

I learned how to improvise solos, some technique, and countless other things about soloing from Kris'.

I learned about following the chords in a chord progression with arpeggios, how to use arpeggios, making melody, bending from weird places from Melodic Control.

EDIT:
I have tons of influences, but here are the major ones are Dimebag Darrel (Pantera, Damageplan), Marty Friedman(Megadeth, Cacophony, Solo), Glenn Tipton and KK Downing(Judas Priest), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath, Solo), Dave Mustaine(Megadeth, for his awesome riffs!), Alexi Leiho (Children of Bodom), Alex Skolnick (Testament), Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth), Eric Clapton(Cream), Jimi Hendrix, David Gilmour(Pink Floyd), Jeff Loomis(Nevermore) and Kristofer of course!!!

Right now I'm trying to learn all the notes on the fretboard, and having a rough time of it sad.gif
But ya, I'm new so be nice to the newbie biggrin.gif

Hey man!
Yeah, i know who you are from UG, i thought you seemed so experienced.
Sounds weird that you've only played for 8 months.

Anyway, fasten your seatbelt and enjoy your flight! :smoke

I try to gain as much knowledge about theory as I can, and learn what notes sound good where as much as I can. Because until I started to learn theory I really sucked. And that kinda makes me seem more experienced than I actually am laugh.gif

If you haven't already, check out Frank Marino from Mahogany Rush. He's been around for quite sometime, but is an awesome guitar player. www.mahoganyrush.com
He's old school, but does one heck of a rendition of Johnny B. Goode live.
