I am almost embarassed to ask this question, but I am kind of new to guitar.....Whats the best way to learn how to tune my guitar? Is there anything i can buy at the guitar store that will help me out?

A Tuner ! I would recommend the KORG TM-40 tuner that combined with metronome that is selling under USD30. Worth the money if you ask me since you do not have to buy a tuner and later a metronome unit separately.

Tuners come in many shapes and sizes man. They also vary a bit in price. I would go for one with a built in metronome. Heres a neat model from Korg.....

Remember for standard tunning, the tuner needs to be set at 440hz smile.gif

My only complaint to this unit is that the metronome sounds frustrated to my ear. (It just my sound preference)

Using a tunner surelly helps a lot, regrettably guitars just cant be in tune couse their construction isn´t perfect so after using the tuner, check the guitar playing some chords and octaves so you can add some minor adjustments.

you can by a guitar tunner i prefer from boss also you have a soft ware tunner you can plug your guitar to pc spound card and tune your guitar

I use korg gt-12 tuner ! But anyone will do the job fine! See in the guitar store which one they have...You don't have to pay a lot for it to do the job fine..
One more thing Greg , don't feel embarrassed asking this question!! We are all beginners at one point , and I remember not knowing how to tune a guitar back in the days when I was starting..I didn't know about which tones open strings need to produce, reference points etc...So its a good question!

I know how you feel. I have a lot of dumb questions too! biggrin.gif Anywho, not so dumb. Just get a good lil inexpensive tuner. Tune each time you pick up to play. Before long you will be able to tell when something is out. Then, the fun begins! Have fun!

I would recommend a tuner with a built-in metronome, such as BOSS TU-80, it doesnt cost much, and works perfectly, I've had it for two years now, and not once I've had to change the batteries smile.gif
