11 Or 12 Gauge Stings On A Parker

There are sets (like the ''Heavy Bottom'' series by Ernie Ball) that feature the e,a and d (low strings) of a thicker set and the high strings of a one size smaller set. For Example the 10-52 set: the three high strings come from a standard 10size set, the three bottom strings are from an 11 set (great set for Drop D tuning). Or a 9-46 set would be a good hybrid set if you enjoy the easy bends of a 9set but still want the tension of 10s on the lower strings for riffs... I just wasn't sure on my parker. Most everything I play I use 12's. Now I already know that I am going to have to make adjustments to the intonation and probably the trust rod I just wasn't sure about going that heavy on a parker. If you call Parker they will tell you that even with 10's, you should get a different set of springs from them, it is designed for 9's. Because I tune it down to E flat, I am ok with 10's though. I did talk to them. With an even heavier set, you had better give them a call and ask their advice. I also don't like the hybrid strings, especially on a guitar that lacks a life time guarantee such as Parker or Ibanez. You are pushing your luck w.r.t. neck warping it seems to me, having so much more tension on the bass side of the neck. You are at GuitarMasterClass.net Don't miss today's free lick. Sep 28 2008, 12:53 PM	Instructor Posts: 25.396 Joined: 20-November 07 From: Belgrade, Serbia	There's no need to worry, you can put any gauge no problem, but you will have to do a setup of the guitar, because now strings are thicker, and have more tension, which will lead to changing of the action, neck curve, and bridge height a bit.
