Download a free program called BestPractice. This is very elementary, and will allow pitch shift and speed change.

! A lot of people use that software I personally have used it in lessons when students brings laptop and we transcribe some heavy stuff. I don't own the program but I will look into getting one soon , its great tool for sure. Where did you get it from ? |

I use time stretch function in Nuendo for that kind of things, it can work for some degree of decreasing the tempo, and then it doesn't sound to great. First you have to set the proper tempo and align the backing to bars in your DAW. THen you can change it with ease.
