Hey Muris,

I got a problem with sweeps. I dont know why but when I try to sweep pick arpeggios, generally in 1 note per string mode there is always this annoying string noise. I tried lots of exercices here, starting from but not limited to economy picking, I had no problems there at all. When I sweep 3 note per string or just economy pick no matter how difficult fingering is, there isnt any noise...

Again and again I return to basics, start playing very very slowly and working on speed gradually but I believe the problem is not on my syncronization or speed, because I dont miss notes, my left hand and right hand is syncronized...

Shall I palm mute strings? or do I have to make a left hand finger tip muting? Or something else? Please I beg you to enlighten me!!!

thank you anyway... smile.gif

Hi smile.gif

For clean sweeping you should apply both left hand muting
and right hand-palm muting.
Left hand muting is mostly matter of "feel",
slightly touch certain strings with certain fingers,
remove your fingers smoothly when moving from one string to another,
try not to make pull-off etc.
With right hand muting you can mute lower strings in 70% of cases,
or you can even mute all 6 strings if you want.
When playing on clean sound, this muting will give you
kind a percussive sound.
When playing with more drive it'll surely kill most of the ringing,
just try to apply right amount of palm muting
to get your notes "out".

Hope this helps. smile.gif

I remember asking Muris for sweeps, because I had so much trouble with it.
He told me the key word:

It's 100% muscle.
Your hands just gotta get so used to the pattern that it can't do it wrong.

After I got this advice I practised sweepd probably 3-4 hours for a week or so, and then I got it down.
So I can acknowledge, it's all about fingermemory and agility!

Sorry to butt in Muris. biggrin.gif
Good luck Enf smile.gif

I used to have this problem too. What works for me is to mute to string below the string you are fretting with your left hand, and mute all the strings above the fretted string with your right hand.

After 2 months of work I believe I nailed this. My approach to sweeping is as follows: In ascending patterns(notewise) I use my right hand palm muting, and in descending patterns (notewise) I use the index finger or my left hand to mute. It is efficent and fast, and combined with excellent finger memory as Kjutte mentioned, results are quite satisfactory.

Congrats!
I noticed that my palm just barely touches the strings as I ascend.

But you already solved it, so I guess it's all good biggrin.gif

Oh yeah, you don't have to do any of right hand mutting if you
do proper movements with left hand, less motions and well placed. smile.gif
