Hi there Marcus biggrin.gif

I`m thinking about buying the Guitar Rig 3 for my computer, since I`m about to make me a little recording studio. But I`m a little afraid that it sounds "to digital". Though, after discovering that you use the Rig for your metal compositions, I think I`m convinced. Still, I would like to hear your oppinion about the Rig and how it`s to use smile.gif
By the way, which software do you use to record your drums?

Cheers cool.gif

About Guitar Rig, I have to say I absolutely love it, I only use this for recording, nothing else. You can check out all my lessons here on GMC, I used Guitar Rig for all of them (aside the harvest of sorrow lesson of course smile.gif ) and I don't think the sound is too digital. This software offers a wide range of amps, cabinets and effects and I think no matter what kind of sound you need, you will find it in GR3. It is very easy to use and a nice sideeffect for me is that on tour I don't have to carry anything else with me (like Pod, pandora or whatever other amp), GR is installed on my laptop and I am ready to record whenever I have an idea.
The software that I am using for my drums (and all other instruments) is called Sample Tank 2.5, a very cool software sampler that works as a stand alone software as well as a plugin. It comes with several gigabytes of cool sounds and is also very easy to use. To complete this overview about my recording setup, I am using both, Guitar Rig and Sample tank, as plugins in Pro Tools.

Thanks for the answer man smile.gif

I`m going to buy the Rig at Saturday, I just need to reformat my computer before installing dry.gif

But the Sampletank was a bit expensive, so I`ll try to find something cheaper to start with

Rock on! Cheers

If you only want some nice drums I guess Sample Tank is a bit over the top, since it is a full sampler softare, I am sure you can find something cheaper for drums only.

Hey Marcus,
I may have missed it somewhere else on your forum, but could you elaborate on the specs that you are using on your laptop; pc or mac, operating system, hard drive(s) size/speed, how much ram, processor type/speed, and the interface that you plug your guitar into..The guitar rig foot controller itself and then from there into your laptop via usb or firewire? I read you're using pro tools as well..what version?

Thanks,
Jess

I find EZDrummer to be a good lower price alternative.

Thanks Marcus! I'm looking for a laptop to replace mine that is getting to the end of it's road..and wanted to do it right!
I noticed your lessons also have really good bass and keyboard tones as well (does the guitar rig plugin allow you to do those through your guitar as well rather than carrying a bass and midi keyboard? ) Sorry for all the questions biggrin.gif

Hey Marcus I have a question about Guitar Rig. Do you experience any latency at all when playing or recording with guitar rig. I'm maybe considering buying Mbox so I'm interested in some pro/cons if there are any. Thanks in advance mate. smile.gif

Hi Ivan, so far I never had ANY latency issues with this combination. The M-Box with Guitar Rig works perfectly fine for me. What I am doing is this: I use one channel in Pro Tools as my main Input channel, I have guitar Rig active as a plug in on this channel, this is where I chose my sound. Then this signal gets routed to the channels that I am actually recording, and this works perfectly fine. Another (even better) option is to record the pure guitar signal, the actual DI-sgnal coming from the M-box. Later you can send this DI-Signal through Guitar Rig and alway use the sound that you need, like this you don't record any sound, just the pure guitar signal. The problem is that for this system you need A LOT of hardware power, and my system here at home is to weak for this. I tried it, it works fine when I only record 2 or 3 tracks, but anything above this is too much for my system. But when we record our albums we always record a DI track along with the normally recorded guitar tracks, like this we can always reamp the recorded track in case we decide for a different sound in the end.
