Hey guys!

I'm going to Musicstore in Germany (Köln), I'm from Holland so it's aproxamatly two hours driving. I'm going with my dad, and a friend of mine who has already been there before. I just wanted to know, what do you guys usualy do when you are in a big musicstore like the one I'm going to? I'm not really going to buy something, but my dad is. I can probably try as much as I want, so that's what I'm going to do for sure! I'm going to do some orientation I guess, for a new guitar!

Cya guys!

Spend your time trying as many guitars/amps as possible.
You know, asking for opinions on certain piece of gear is valuable
but you'll never know for sure until you try it by yourself.
And I hope you'll have enough time to do it! smile.gif

Have fun at the musicstore, kaznie. smile.gif I´ve been there one time. I think it was in February. If I was you, I would go in the amp section and take a guitar with you. Look for your favorite tone, maybe it will be your trademark. smile.gif

If you find a comfortable and cool guitar I suggest you take that with yourself to the amp section and try as many as possible. This can be a clever order to find your new equipment !!

Hey, and rock on! biggrin.gif wink.gif

I really hate that store^^

First of all it's right in the middle of the town in a crowded shopping street surrounded by cloth shops and stuff. You enter the store through a really bad and old elevator (there is no entrance on street level, wtf?!)

The store is overall really shabby, cramped, unsorted and run down... They packed the building full of gear so that everything piles up and stands in the way - wird layout to walk through the store. Yes they have a lot of guitars but not more than any other music store of a certain size (big enough to have an online store). They only keep lower to middle priced guitars in the store for testing and keep the Expensive ones in the storage or behind glass to look at. Sometimes they won't even let you play one of the few expensive (2k+) guitars they have in the store because they think you aren't going to buy them anyways...(Customer service, hello) They have a lot of amps, maybe the biggest collection on Germany and you can test them all - you have to ask them to wire them up and turn them on for you but then you can play pretty much anything that's in the store. Most of the staff is frendly and they all speak english.

They are buliding a new Musicstore a bit outside of town from the ground up, it is going to be a lot bigger and hopefully better!

I know exactly what you mean. I live in North Carolina, but work out of DC (which is a 6 hour drive away). We only really have 4 music shops in my city and they're not really that big, so whenever I go to DC I like to visit one of the HUGE Guitar Centers around the area (which I just did last week). I play left handed, so most shops don't really carry guitars I can play or really nice ones I can play. So what I do when I'm there is find the nicest guitar I could never afford (ie-'57 Goldtop reissue) and plug it in to one of the nicest amps I can find (ie-a Matchless or something like that) and just noodle around for like an hour. It's a good time and I'm sure you'll have a blast. I always feel obligated to buy something afterwards though, so I usually end up with a pack of strings and picks or something like that. But it's totally worth it.

You should try out some guitars that look interesting to you and also some guitar amps...Testing as many gear as you can will be a valuable experience and you will have some different "tones" to compare later on.

Also, don't forget to speak politely with the staff as well. No matter if they cannot play that good, they know their gear well (spend their whole day there wink.gif ). they have some valuable advices to give if approached nicely.

Oh, almost forgotten this thread ohmy.gif well, I observed the shop plus the staff and after a twenty minutes, I went to a nice staff member who was really carrying for his clients! I asked for an Ibanez JEM, Fender Strat Deluxe and a Gibson Les Paul, he gave me one guitar after the other and showed me the different amp rooms...well I felt like in a dream biggrin.gif I immediately fell in love with the Les Paul - if I wanna upgrade, this will probably my choice! The staff member afterwards told me I could take every guitar I want and play on them, so a tested almost every brand in there cool.gif
Tested some basses and keyboards as well - I didn't buy anything, because I don't have enough money for the moment, but I could test all the instruments I always read about in the internet, that was really nice! And I tested an ukulele as well, was a very nice day =)
