Gypsy jazz is hip on GMC right now. Lessons pop up everywhere and names of great players are dropped. But one is missing and I doubt that a lot of people now him. I saw Bireli Lagrene and some other great players live but the most impressing one, if it bcomes to traditional gypsy jazz, was Josho Stephan. He plays very traditional lines and doesn't branch out into more modern styles, but his technical perfection and musicality make him the new Django (OK at least in my eyes). Other players might be better jazzers though.
