Hi,

I tried a couple of times to record bass on my POD X3 live and it didn't work fine. Either the volume is too low or the sound starts to break.

It seems the volume available to the final mix is lower than during recording. Somehow it is different when recording electric guitar...

Anyone has tips on that?

if your recording using headphones and connecting to the computer using a USB connection, the master volume control is used to control the level you hear through the headphones.
if you want to turn up the bass you have to turn it up via the patch. also make sure you have the right output settings and just tweak the bass sounds to get the sound your after. if the bass is too quiet after recording, try adding a compressor or turning the recorded bass in the mixing process... it may reduce the quality a little but atleast its there right?

Can you record a bass direct without using amp/cab simulators etc on your pod ? Just record the signal as you would with a di-box unit.Once you get that you can EQ the sound to your needs in a recording software. Also you can add some gain in the recording software to make it a little louder..I don't know why POD doesn't record it on a normal level...Here is a nice gadget for recording bass that sounds good - http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servl...nfo?Track=BDI21 ..You will just need to get the sound of it into a computer (through POD).I played on this preamp/di box and it really does the job well when it comes to bass...Its a copy of SansAmp 21 smile.gif

You mean I should try to use a preamp preset on POD X3 instead of using a preset that has effects + bass amp simulation?
I mean, theoretically a preamp preset in POD works like a DI (I think?)

By the way, my brother has exact this DI, but he is on Brazil tongue.gif

Well I mean you should try it..You see when we record bass in studio we record two tracks - one is the dry bass signal (from di-box) and other one is mic-ed amplifier..Track from the di-box is very important and gives in the mix a lot of definition to the track you play...While one from the amp is more about the color of the sound.

I would try using a preamp preset and of course adding volume there as it is needed and than EQ-ing that track in your recording software to get a bass sound color you were looking for..Also that bass amp simulation can be a nice option too (but I don't know the quality of that preset)...Don't use any other effects on bass while recording..
