I think it just all boils down to creativity. I saw a interview on youtube somewhere with Joe Satriani and he was talking about "Good guitarists".

What he said was that traveling around to different clinics, and music schools etc...that there is no shortage of players that are technically proficient, and walking theory text books but, finding that one guy, who may not be that technically proficient or as well versed in theory who is doing something that makes you look at the instrument in a different way is so rare that its like finding a diamond in the rough.

IMO creativity is everything, becoming technically proficient so that you can be creative on the level you want to be is not a bad thing, but its the creativity that should drive it not the other way around. Music after all is an art form, its not a decathalon. Learn all you can from the greats, but try to find yourself.

Daniel

Completely agree, I practice a lot of technique, but I am aware that it will take me nowhere if I don't come up with interesting musical ideas, something that will make listeners sing along my guitar solos, just like you do with a Satriani song

I remember Satriani's one from 15 years ago. He was asked who the best player is in his oppinion. He said Slash because he was the richest one smile.gif

There was also a question which guitar is the best. He said the new one smile.gif
