Hi All,

I just wanted to show off my new guitar: A Schecter Hellraiser C1 FR. This is the first guitar with a Floyd Rose I've ever owned, so I am sure I'll be asking questions in the future.

From the factory, it came with a pretty nice setup, however I'm sure it will need to be taken in once I figure out what configuration I'd like.

I'm thinking of keeping a tuning of a half step down. What string gauge would you guys recommend for this configuration? If I were to tune an entire step down, which gauge would be good for that as well?

I appreciate your comments and suggestions. ROCK ON!

Nice guitar man smile.gif If you are going to tune down just a 1/2 step, IMO, 9's are fine. Whole step down, go with a set of 10's..Once again, my opinion of course. If this is your first floating bridge guitar, it's a whole different animal changing tunings. With a little time and practice, you can have it in say 20min or so.. ohmy.gif smile.gif Yeah, it can be a pain.

Damn nice guitar. For D-standard tuning I woul use at least .11 strings because they would feel like .10 size strings on standard tuning. If you prefer the more loose feel of .9 strings, use 10 for d-standard.

About Schecter:

It is ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE to get some Schecter models here in Germany!!! I wanted to buy a 7string for christmas and only ONE store in Germany imports schecter models and the models I was interested in (Loomis sig, Blackjack atx) are sold out long before they are delivered, and that just in case IF they are delivered as it seems Schecter does not produce enough models to supply more than the US...

Beautiful guitar! You're going to like the Floyd. You can do anything with it and stay in tune. I would consider 10s if you're tuning down a half step, and 11s for a whole step. I use 10s in standard tuning and I find that my tone is a little fuller than with 09s. That's just my opinion. smile.gif

Thanks for the replies! I am a recent signup to GMC and I'd like to say how impressed I am by the quality of this community. I'm especially happy with how friendly and educated everyone is. It's a world apart from most guitar sites that are full of children arguing with each other, calling each other names for not liking their favorite band, etc.

This is a great place to be!

Really nice guitar!
I think I'd use the 9mm gauge for the down half-step tuning.

OOHHH AHHHH!! Nice one bro!

I'd recommend D'addario XL 10-52 straight 10-46 would work to.

10s are fine, but you'll have trouble setting up the floyd bridge with no experience.
