I also think that everybody has his own way of practicing. You said that so far you followed Petruccis way and you saw good results, so obviously his way works fine for you, so why change it? Of course you can try other ways too, like this you can compare them and maybe find a way that feels better for you, but as long as you clearly see a progress I don't see why you should change your way of practicing.

That's true definitely. Try out several practicing schedules and see what works best for you. There is no universal practice schedule. If you see that you are advancing, don't stray from that path
