Hey everybody, I'm the proud new owner of the Toneport UX2. I find the distortion effects a bit lacking with the supplied model packs and was wondering if I can plug an overdrive pedal into the toneport input or into one of those footswitch inputs. The box did not come with a manual and line6 doesn't' seem to have a manual specifically for the hardware to show the different types of configuration, only for the software which does not help me in this instance. Basically I would like to have a wah and o/d or distortion pedal in front of the toneport but don't want to break it dry.gif

cheers

Just click on the Stomp Box effect and add what ever you want. They are both there and will be added to the front (pre amp).

The speaker cabnet mics on the default patches make everything sound dead. I use the Tone Port UX1 and would be happy to help or send you a few of my patches to try. The Gearbox software is really good but can take some time to get use to programming.

One example of a George Lynch patch I have been working on and I don't thinks it's to bad.

"Think of a guitar solo as a paragraph. You need a clear beginning, a middle, and an end. Look at musical phrases like sentences, and make sure you break them up using punctuation—or space. You pause naturally when conversing, right? If you don't, you'll bore the listener. The same thing will happen with your audience if your solo is one dimensional. You'll wear them out and lose their attention." —Tom Principato

Hey UncleSkillet, I am actually looking to get sounds that aren't in the pod farm software, with the limited version I have there is only a couple of fuzz boxes, a classic distortion and a tube screamer. I have a couple of overdrive pedals and I am wondering if I can connect them physically to the input of the toneport and also my vox wah.

I don't use the POD Farm bro. Not sure where you got that thought. I just use Gearbox, no add on packs (can't afford them) and learned to deal with it.

Connecting a Wah works ok and won't hurt your Tone Port. At least it didn't blow up mine laugh.gif

I wouldn't recommend plugging up a distortion pedal or something like that. Probably won't sound to go and it may hurt your device.

All I used for the song I gave you a link to is my tone port, my strat and a Marshall Plexi amp model with the Tube Screamer in front to push it. A few other tweaks as well but nothing special or anything plugged in.

If you could give me more information on what kind of tone your going for maybe I could be of more help smile.gif

inertia you can do that no problem mate, it will not affect your Toneport unit. Just make sure you make good presets that will get along with your pedals/wah. Toneport acts a bit strange with wah pedal so a bit of preset tweaking is in order to make it sound right if you know what I mean. Cheers smile.gif

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll try the pedals and let you know how it works out. UncleSkillet, pod farm is the upgraded version of gearbox, it has the same amps/cabs effects, it's just a nicer looking interface, ie you see the actual amp and the actual pedal instead of everything looking like rack gear. It's a free download from line 6. I'm basically looking to get some nice eddie van halen/john petrucci/satriani tones, so reverb and/or delay with a lot of gain and noise filter, lead tones basically.

Thanks again guys

No prob mate. I recommend using Soldano and Vox Emulations they are among the best for leads in combination with Screamer. Just crank the mids a bit. smile.gif
