Hi guys, I was just wondering about exercises like for instance the "hands synchronisation" and "Right hand basics" series. For me it is very important that I learn to play with my both hands in sync, because in the past I often tried to be faster than I really was. I really like making music and playing solo's and chord progressions, so these exercise are a little boring for me (i know they have to be done though).

I was just wondering, what is the recommendation of praticing time with these exercises? Will 30 minutes be enough? 10 minutes? Or do I have to do these exercises overnight to get results?

I believe the key is consistency over time. 10 or 15 minutes every day is better than 3 hours once a week. If you can do this for weeks or even months you should notice results. I can't do them for too long at one sitting cause I get a little burned out and I need to work on other things too. But they definately work so it's good to put in the time to do them correctly every day. That's what works for me anyway.

Well you don't need to bang them away for the whole day or night, just keep the flow as Freddie said. 15-20 should be just fine depending how you do your sessions. The results will come in time.

Absolutely. I find practicing exercises very little helps more. Especially before I go to bed. I tend to do 15-30 minutes of exercising. I find the next day and every next day I keep doing it it gets easier. But consistency is key.

Sleep is important. Its where what you have learned gets embedded into your brain.

I agree that consistency is the key. I find excercises to be boring but necessary. 10-15 minutes daily over a long period of time is the way to go biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Donny if you practice those exercises every day , depending on your talent and grasp of instrument, you will keep moving the boarder in your practice and you would require less and less time to do it.
So it might be 20 minutes but eventually it might lead to 5 minutes or less.
Just start doing them and it will all fall in the place smile.gif

I think those exercise you mentioned above can serve for two different things. First as warm up exercises and second, to work on synchronization, speed or in general to push your technic further.

I guess everybody is right that consistency is important here. I try to integrate those exercises while working on some songs or lessons to keep it more interesting (and trick myself a bit smile.gif). If there is a complicated part in there, it often becomes easier after doing a few minutes of exercises like the technic explained in the "Right hand basics" lesson. The same counts for the left hand. Some legato exercises are helpful to reduce inconsistencies. After i feel a bit more prepared and practice this fast run or whatever i have difficulties with. I repeat this a few times during practicing and easily do those exercises even more then 15-20 minutes without noticing.
