Hissing Overdriven Halfstack, Noise Reduction Pedal Needed? |

So... With an overdrive in front of my Marshall clone I am standing in front of a hissing monster.
I'm not used to that. I've been using modelers for so long I am spoiled by how silent they are. I imagine I need a noise reduction pedal. Some sort of gate? I'm in need of one aswell, going for the Hush I belive will be my choise. It'll cut all sound when, so to say, the strings are silent.
You should either put it right after the guitar, or in the effects loop if that's what's making noise. In your list of gear, you own a 'handmade JCM 800 with mods'. That sounds interesting, what is that?

Its a clone of a 50 watt Marshall JCM 800 amplifier.
There is a decent size community out there that are building their own amps. You can readily find schematics for Marshall and other amps. And the technology in these older amps is pretty simple. Some digging, a soldering iron, and about $500 in parts will give you what you need to make your own. You can also buy kits from companies like cieratone. http://www.ceriatone.com/ The end result is for $500(US) I anded up with a handwired Marshall JCM800 with a few mods done to it to gear it a bit more to my liking. How is this 'modded' from the original JCM 800? Just curious, I may condider modding my TSL. Very cool. There were also "high gain" versions available for the preamp tubes. I dont know how much of a difference that made but I got those too. It still sounds great clean so...... The transformers were from tubesandmore.com. Basic aftermarket ones. Nothing real special there. YOu can sink a LOT of money into the transformers. I honestly don't know what the mods are. Some changes in the resistor values on the tone circuit. My friend Dave finalized what schematic we were using. He took a few ideas fron other sites for the final.
