Hey, I'm looking to buy a new guitar and have browsed around a lot, but I'd still like some expert comments tongue.gif.
What I'm looking for:

Sound: J-Rock (see below for examples) I was thinking about an ESP since it seems it's quite common in Jrock. Don't know which one though. (I also wonder how a stratocaster / les paul / ibanez would be for this type of music.)
Price Range: 800-1400 USD is what I'm expecting as a price. (although it's flexible.)
I want it to be a guitar which I can use for a long time and wouldn't need to upgrade when I get more serious.

Sound examples:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACpkG-agIM4 (Dir en Grey, ESP again?)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-GMo_iFT-U (Lolita23q)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly_vhsRLcCQ (Belive In Sytle)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDlSYkK81tI (Enoz)
Etc.

Thanks a lot.

If you want plain rock, a hardtail would be fine.
You pretty much gotta speak alittle of your ambitions before I can give you any advice.
Versatility should always be a goal in my opinion though.

J-Rock doesn't need a special guitar; nearly every shape and maker will do fine. The reason why they all play ESP is that ESP is a japanese guitar maker that has most J-Rock bands as their artists:

If you're really into those J-Rock bands you can get one of their signature series but I guarantee you their sound is no miracle and can be achieved with every guitar. Go to a store and try guitars in diffrent shapes and from diffrent companies until you find one that feels right for you...

Zakk is right, any guitar can be used for J-Rock, and I think ESP is a great choice. It has better value then some LP's out there.
