Is it normal to peel your fingertips playing an electric guitar?
Thanks in advance.

When you start of playing the guitar (or play irregularly), yes this is quite normal. After a while you develop some callus on your fingertips, which will prevent the peeking of your fingertips.

Well, the strings are from steel, you know wink.gif
I can remember back many years ago, when I've first took an acoustic guitar (after some playing on a classical one) I cutted my fingertips to the blood wink.gif
Don't worry, they'll get used to it soon.

In the beginning this is quite normal, as time goes by pain will totally go away. Just keep playing smile.gif

Am I wrong?, or the callus would dissapear if I quit playing. Just curious; by the way I hope none of you have had that experience, or what would you be doing here? haha! To be true: there is always a price to pay, just life!
Another thing is our western mentality so bad for patience. Not a buda yet, haha

Thanks you all for your helpful assitance, keep on rocking!

It does start to fade if you leave it a while, depending on the amount of time you've been playing. They also can become quite sensitive. If you play guitar after having a bath or shower, for example, then that can cause your skin to peel a lot, regardless of the amount of time you've been playing.

After a while you will develop calluses on fingertips that will harden enough to prevent your skin to tear in consant touch with metal strings. Don't worry, it's perfectly normal, and good thing it happens! smile.gif
If you stop playing for some time, the fingertips will return in previous state, so no need to worry. smile.gif

Yup, definitely normal! I started playing myself two months ago after having a Squier lying around for ages without doing anything with it, and now I've been playing for at least three hours every day. After my first week I too was surprised about the callus on my fingertips. I guess you'll just get used to it.

I recommend warming up every morning at 6AM on the cooker hob in the kitchen for at least 10 minutes. This should get your fingertips hard as a stone ph34r.gif
