I came across this website. Does anyone use "Earvana"? I'm curious if it any good, because it's pretty cheap, and I notice some great players using it.

Why aren't all guitars built with this?

Well, guitarists are pretty "old -fashioned" and in many ways we don't accept new things so easily..
Most of us want our guitars the "old fashioned way", and believe the best guitars was built decades ago, with the old nuts. Manufacturers are afraid they will lose possible customers to put them on their guitars? Maybe the look of Earvana just doesn't do it for some people? And since most guitarists are guys, we don't want someone to mess with our "nuts"! rolleyes.gif

I'm not very old-fashioned though.. I have plans to build a new guitar with parts from Warmoth, and I will definitely go with the Earvana on that one. My wife also say my nuts start to look old, so a change is welcome...

I'd be happy if I could hear a pitch difference of 1-2 cent. biggrin.gif But after reading the description here and looking at the pictures I think I understand their system, and it's clever!

Bogdan, the numbers look realistic to me. I'm just not sure how much difference it really makes sound wise.

Kizaze44, My guess is that it just doesn't make that much of a difference in real life. It would be interesting to ask the audience of a concert if they've heard a difference.

Well, I guess a audience wouldn't hear a difference. But fact is you can never tune a guitar and have it in pitch at open strings and fretted strings together. People I know who tried it say it may not be a big difference, but you have a feeling the chords ring cleaner. Especially chords you take near the nut when you use both open and fretted strings...
I assume this is one of those things you don't miss, until you've tried it. I think if you put it on one guitar you will go crazy with the other guitars, feeling they are slightly out of tune? So it's best never to try one... biggrin.gif
