Hi all, sometime ago I told you to stay tuned as a new exciting project was coming your way, well here it is! wink.gif

We are looking for up to three members insterested in managing some of the Wiki Portals, such as Gear, Theory, Bands, etc.

So far we have been focusing our efforts in maintaining an updated mainpage, journal & creating new articles, as well as putting the great amount of knowledge that resides in our forums into our wiki.

But we also have many different portal sections in the wiki, which also need to be refreshed and updated, and we'd like to find some members willing to take some further wiki responsibilities in this area. Some portals are bigger than others, so each candidate could take care of one "bigger" and one "smaller" portal to start, I think these are some nice portals:

- Gear & Genres (We have lots of gear entries written & needed)
- Bands & Guitarists (We also have loads of entries about Bands & Guitarists)
- Theory & Techniques (Hint: It would be really cool to slowly bring Andrew's lessons to our wiki!)

What would you have to do?
- Select and display interesting wiki content in the different areas of the portal
- Keep the portal regularly updated, displaying new featured articles etc. from the existent wiki entries.
- Create some new entries
- Keep an eye on the forums for interesting info/lessons that could be featured in the portal
- Anything you can think of to make the portal interesting!

Any rewards?
- Free GMC lesson access. That's right, you get full GMC access for free. How cool is that? cool.gif

Anyone can apply for this task. There will be a month trial period to see how the selected candidates do. I will help you so you know what you need to do and how, specially at the beginning, it's easy though, you'll be updating portals in no time. Some wiki writing knowledge is desired, so Wiki:writers are speciallly encouraged to take part! smile.gif

Candidates will be selected based on prior wiki experience and past contributions. Post in this thread or PM me if you are interested & feel free to ask any doubts. wink.gif

I will help out as I'm still annoyed that I couldn't help with the centralisation project as I was very ill in hospital for a large period of time around then. I will happily work on the wiki as it is becoming better and better every day. But I don't want the free lesson access as I just want to help out. I'm quite happy to pay to be here as it's one of the only things online that I pay for and actually enjoy my time with lol. biggrin.gif I'd love the Gear portal as I have about 7 articles planned out already laugh.gif

I think I'd be interested, although you'd have to explain what I have to do in minute detail as I'm not the most Computer Literate person!!

Ehm... I'm hesitating, but I think I'm interested. After all, free membership would be cool tongue.gif Gear would be the coolest for me, but I don't mind getting another portal. You've known me for a while so I think that's all fine tongue.gif I don't think I'm going to be very active writing new entries, but I'm going to keep busy as a journalist and I'd update my portal at least once a week with some older cool articles that I would bring up! As Jones said, we might need some help on how to work with them tongue.gif maybe you can make a page with all the tags in there?

Nice to see that we already have a few candidates! smile.gif

For the ones in doubt you can see what I mean by portals if you access each one of them from the top right corner of the wiki frontpage, for instance, this is the current gear portal:

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Portal:Gear

As you guys can see, it has an introduction section, featured article section, other articles section, etc. Those sections can be renamed etc, so they feature different things; for instance encyclopedic wiki entries or user review entries from the forums that are already in our wiki, pictures, lessons, etc...

And the same thing happens with the other portals too.

It would be nice if you share your ideas like O.C. and Kaz did, so I get to know a bit about your plans regarding the portal. That, coupled with your prior wiki experience & contributions should help me choose our three new portal resposibles.

I'll leave the thread open until saturday 17th, so everyone has enough time to see it & think about it and what they could do to contribute to the portal. Building the portal sections is not really different from creating usual articles, so don't worry about that, there are just a couple things you should know to access the different sections and rename them, but I'll help you when we are at it, you'll see it's fun and piece of cake smile.gif

I will add a bit more. I'd love the gear portal for one like I said and genres because I know a lot about different music genres and I have tonnes of gear that I want to write wikis on and I know exactly what I'm doing when creating a wiki. I've only created two articles but I know how to edit an article and put an article into a portal and I know computer languages anyway. It'd be straight forward for me and no learning involved. Plus I could update front pages with top articles quite frequently and make sure the portal is well maintained and full of high quality articles and that the high quality articles are noticed and given credit for by front portal page coverage. My English is of a high quality also for writing as I am from England laugh.gif No Americanisms tongue.gif biggrin.gif Those crafty lot laugh.gif

Ok, so OC added some stuff. I feel like I have to as well xD I want to focus on keeping it fun to read and updates. I also think that I can write some articles, but it's way better if I can get some others to write articles, a group can write much more then just one person! My enlgish is quite good, especialy when I focus. In the forums i'm not always strict with english, but we Dutch people speak and write English quite well. The technique portal would also be cool, but it's combined with theory, which isn't my strongest point. I wrote a big article on harmonics, so I can write about them, but I don't know much about modes and exotic scales etc. The ultimate for me would be Gear and Technique, but because that's not a possible combination, I'll take great care of a portal, no matter which one. I'll search pictures, and maybe keep a little weekly extra, like a Guitar Joke, or a Technique hint-sentence.

For me the most important thing is to keep people busy with the wiki and to keep people writing and reading it!

I'm quite happy to research and write Biographical Articles, History of Manufacturers/Instruments and include Pictures etc and that type of article in general!

I wouldn't mind doing some reviews...
So if we know any Manufacturers that would like to send me Test Models etc!!!!!

Right you wanted more idea of plans etc so here they are. smile.gif

I would be interested in helping out in the Theory and Technique portals as they are both subjects I know a fair bit about. One of my favourite things to do on the Wiki is add to the Theory Glossary. Also being from Britain my English is good.

In the theory portal I would put all of Andrew’s Theory Lessons across into the portal as well as keeping them on the forum. I would expand the theory glossary more. I would also start a scale database where there would be lists of scales with their formula, possibly scale diagrams, and styles they are commonly used in. I would update the portal regularly with featured articles and alike, and would like to have a “Definition of the Day” running where every day I put something interesting out the Theory glossary on the front page of the portal.

In the techniques portal I would make a techniques and guitar words glossary for beginners who wonder what a word means but don’t want to start a topic asking it. I would make more articles about techniques and add to the new ones with explanations of the technique and FAQs about it that get asked on the forum quite a lot. I would also regularly update the front page with new featured articles.

There is one on the wiki with just lists of diagrams at the moment, but so far it's just pentatonics. I'd like to expand that and say a bit about each scale. smile.gif
