The device is USB Audio class compliant which means it will just work plug & play with your computer, is able to control an external (pre)amp. It has got an integrated looper which is cool for jamming or creating patches. I'd strongly suggest you to check it out and spend some time with it. I have Toneport UX1 unit and it is definitely enough for recording purposes. The Terratec interface doesn't even seems interesting. For that kind of money you can buy a semi-pro sound card like EMU1212m and still get enough money to go to Behringer ULTRAGAIN PRO-8 rack and expand the soundcards 2 channels with 8 more (24/48) ones. This is already a great home studio setup. If you want reference, check out Andrews blog "Studio Is Born" here on GMC.
As for Toneport I recommend Toneport UX1, or POD Studio UX1. They are practically the same devices. UX2 is more expensive but in reality the same device. They both record 2 channels of audio multitracked regardless on the number of inputs. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE

I use toneport ux2 and would recommend ux1 any time..Its not that expensive and will cover all your home recording needs you'll have...And its just so easy to use (just plug your guitar in and dial in the sound in the software simulations)...
