Terratec is an incredible soundcard - it has really good preamps and a quality of its sound is astounding.
On the other hand - Toneport comes with the POD Farm software...
I was standing at similar choice few days ago and finally choose Toneport - as it came out a cheaper solution (well, it depends on what Toneport model you want to buy...).

...and I've bought an UX1 Studio wink.gif

You see - it has both guitar AND mic preamps, plus it's outside of the computer, which is an additional pro (soundcard put into the computer sits in one big noisy place....). Plus this software - with this you are done with any latency, which is killing, when using some external VST effects.

Recording your amp with a mic requires you to have some nice rehearsal room, and with Toneport you can put your amps line out (or headphones out) into Toneport's in - and you're done smile.gif

I would go for Toneport for time being as you can take it anywhere and record. Another advantage is price difference and last but not least - it will do more than enough for guitar recording wink.gif

I'm almost in the same situation except that I'm quite ambivalent in my choice between a pod x3 and a toneport or studio ux1 or 2.

I have an ok marshall combo, but the overdrive channel is very weak and that's the reason that I have the x3 among my choices.

Suggestions? smile.gif

Good soundcards don't pick up any relavant amount of noise from the PC. Speaking of the latency of the Toneport USB (Buffering) alone adds like 5ms in each direction. Which is ihmo already noticable. Another problem with the toneport is that it requires special drivers. These things aside, I think it's a good USB Guitar Interface.

Mandos, my recommendation would be to get a BOSS GT-10. I've got a Pod XT (which is very similar to the X3, which I've also tried). I prefer the sound of the GT-10, the ability to loop in a preamp (I've got an ENGL 530) or pedals is also great. The device is USB Audio class compliant which means it will just work plug & play with your computer, is able to control an external (pre)amp. It has got an integrated looper which is cool for jamming or creating patches. I'd strongly suggest you to check it out and spend some time with it. I didn't like it at first but after some fiddling I'm really enjoying it now.

I don't own Toneport but from my understanding it is cheaper version of POD XT Live smile.gif

If you have extra $, definitely get POD XT LIVE ! I record everything trough it , it has usb output so just connected to PC and you are good to go smile.gif

It's a Pod XT without the modeling - just the interface. All the modeling is done on the Computer.

I have Toneport UX1 unit and it is definitely enough for recording purposes. The Terratec interface doesn't even seems interesting. For that kind of money you can buy a semi-pro sound card like EMU1212m and still get enough money to go to Behringer ULTRAGAIN PRO-8 rack and expand the soundcards 2 channels with 8 more (24/48) ones. This is already a great home studio setup. If you want reference, check out Andrews blog "Studio Is Born" here on GMC.

As for Toneport I recommend Toneport UX1, or POD Studio UX1. They are practically the same devices. UX2 is more expensive but in reality the same device. They both record 2 channels of audio multitracked regardless on the number of inputs.

I use toneport ux2 and would recommend ux1 any time..Its not that expensive and will cover all your home recording needs you'll have...And its just so easy to use (just plug your guitar in and dial in the sound in the software simulations)...
