Just watched 'Contact' the bio pic about Ian Curtis, the late singer with Joy Division. Great film whether you like the group or not - excellent acting.

I'd also recommend 'Bird' - another bio pic but this is about Charlie Parker, and 'Some kind of monster' the documentary about Metallica.

I know most of these have been mentioned before but my favourites include:-
The Wall
The Commitments (I did some songwriting with Andy Strong, the singer, shortly after the film was released.)
The Blues Brothers
This is Spinal Tap
Walk the Line
Great Balls of Fire
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Doors (Val Kilmer was superb in this!)
Crossroads

For soundtracks you could do a lot worse than:-
Paris Texas
Southern Comfort

The Pianist, Shine, La Vie en Rose spring to mind.

All excellent smile.gif

The Pianist is a very moving and sad film, but beautiful in many ways as well. It really is a must watch movie.

That was a great film, I agree. Really relaxed and enjoyable with very nice music.

I have two recommendations for great jazz movies:

1. Bird (about charlie parker and his drug issues), directed by Clint Eastwood
2. Round Midnight (movie featuring sax legend Dexter Gordon)
