Hey Emir,
If we both get the boot from our wives because of GMC maybe we can get an apartment together, although we would probably both be too poor from the divorce to be able to afford anything. laugh.gif I remember when I first got married and I could only afford one guitar that my wife played a joke on me and hid it and then left the window open in the room that I kept my guitar in. She told me that somebody must have broken into the house and stolen my guitar. She didn't tell me about her hiding it from me until I was basically in tears. That is when I first realized that "I might have a guitar obsession". laugh.gif laugh.gif

Just watched those new comments...
big laugh at lcsdds's two sayings: "sounds like a password" wink.gif and about Yngwie playing arpeggios: "but he's playing it so fast that it doesn't matter" laugh.gif

So many cool tips in all those... and I have to take to myself your comment about recording in small parts... I've recorded mine as a one whole - and just right between second and third part there're some strings sounding where they shouldn't do that already... that's where I could go for a separate record take... smile.gif Will do it next time, for sure.

ahh... by the way... you can pronounce my nick as "utaker" wink.gif or you can call me Piotr, eventually you can go for an English name Peter.

I was laughing out loud at the password comment as well. laugh.gif The Yngwie statement could have been straight out of spinal tap. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Thanks a lot for the tips Emir. I think you've helped me a lot. Now I know about your tip I don't need to record in one go even though that take was badly split into two. Now I know how to record exactly from a point whilst adding a bit of fade. That is great advice. I think you are bang on with me also. I think my ideas are far beyond my technical ability on guitar and I have to get my vibrato nailed. Thanks a lot for the feedback smile.gif I really appreciate the time you have taken on these video comments. I will make sure I watch the video over and over to pick up on the tips. I've listened to every other video also up to now and taken a lot from them.

I'm called OrganisedConfusion for a reason lol smile.gif

Cheers man.

That wife thing can be a bit... How should I put it? Confusing?
You know, those conversations that can go something like this:
Day 1:
Me: Honey, I'll go upstairs and play guitar for a while, ok?
Wife: Sure! You know, I'm so glad you have this interest, I like that you play guitar. I will never oppose you follow your interests... You can play as long and often as you like! I love you!
Day 2:
Me: Honey, I'll go upstairs and play guitar for a while, ok?
Wife: Sure! You go play... Never mind those curtain you didn't put up for 2 months, or that you promised last week you would finally fix those squeaking doors...! *Unhearable evil mumbleing from wife's mouth*
Day 3:
Wife: Hey honey, why are you down here? Why don't you go and practice some guitar? I wanna watch my favorite show on tv anyway...
Me: I was thinking I'm gonna fix those squeaking doors...
Wife: What! Oh, honey, those can wait. You're free from work next week, then you'll have time, or maybe the week after that.. It's nothing that can't wait, you go have fun. You know I'd never dream of oppose you follow your interests... I love you!

Oh, thanks Kaznie! However, I know Emir will bring the big axe and do some serious woodchopping! laugh.gif Which is ok, I myself know at least 4 issues with this solo that could have been better/different...

I must say, everyone did a really good job on this collab, very nice to hear which experience everyone has also? I mean, I get very impressed to hear someone who played guitar only 1 year, play stuff I wouldn't have dreamed of playing after 1 year.
It gives another dimension listening to each ones contribution, when you know their background...

Lol, I've played a bit over a year tongue.gif however.. I cheated.. Before that I could play some chords tongue.gif

I've had WAY too many of those conversations in my 17 years of marriage. laugh.gif laugh.gif I finally decided if I was going to be able to get some uniterrupted guilt free practice time I would have to get up EARLY in the morning. Has worked out pretty good. Now I just fall asleep in bed while she is trying to tell me about her day. There is no way to win this battle. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Too bad I'm so tired in the mornings... And to stay up late is not an option either. Then it will be "Why can't we go to bed at the same time? You care more about guitar than me, it seems... You don't love me anymore?"
I'm pretty lucky anyway, I work 5 week cycles, with 1st week morning M-F and free weekend, 2nd week afternoon, 3rd week free, 4th week night, 5th week free. So I have plenty of alone time. Now, all I need is some discipline to practice.

Hi Emir

You are doing an amazing job with this collab and just from watching the other videos and listening to everyones tracks I have learned so much. I have nothing but respect for your talent as well as the effort you are putting into help us all become better players.

I must appologize to you for my previous post in this thread where you requested information about our playing background and how many years we have been playing. I gave you a general statment of playing time and left it at that. After watching these great video responses and how personnel you are making them for the students I now realize how important this question was. Once again I am sorry for me poor response.

Please accept this as a more accurate reflection of who I am and my playing background.

How long have you been playing?
Well I started I think at about 13yrs old and played for a few years. Noodled around and tried to teach myself some songs using an old record player my grandmother gave me. We couldn't afford lessons. I could play some AC/DC songs, Heart, 1 or 2 from Rush. Mostly just rhythm stuff. Parents got divorced and I put the guitar down till I was 18 or 20yrs old. Started playing more serious at that point. I was working and on my own and couldn't pay for lessons either. So I made a bunch of friends that could play and I would just watch and learn from that. Then I would go home and get my tape player out and work on songs. About 5 - 6 years later I made a decision to put the guitar down and go to a local college to get an education and a better job. Well that worked out pretty good and now I have a life and a wonderful family that supports me. A little more than a year ago I decided I was missing an important part of me. Part of my soul so to speak. So I bought a guitar that I always wanted but could never afford when I was younger and promised myself that I would finish what I started.

I have never had any formal training musically at all and as you can hear I could use some polish. I am completely self-taught and most of what I know I’ve learned by ear or has rubbed off on me just from being around other great players. I would like to learn more theory and techniques so that I can better express myself musically. I can’t play 16th triplets at 250bpm or do a lot of flashy things (well yet). But one thing I think I do correct is play within my abilities and do my best to make a musical statement.

Thanks for your time and efforts,

Jeff

"Think of a guitar solo as a paragraph. You need a clear beginning, a middle, and an end. Look at musical phrases like sentences, and make sure you break them up using punctuation—or space. You pause naturally when conversing, right? If you don't, you'll bore the listener. The same thing will happen with your audience if your solo is one dimensional. You'll wear them out and lose their attention." —Tom Principato

Thanks. You have a real rock soul man when playing guitar. After several listening I heard great stuff. About recording, even the most skilled players use many tricks. There is nothing wrong about step recording, that's why we have this modern software to make our life easier.

Thanks for your info. Yes these things help me look at your playing in a different way. Most of the time I guess it about right but this way is easier for me. You don't need to tell the long history but just 2 sentences and a number of years of experience.

Thank you so much Emir, I appreciate it extremely much, and I will definately sign up if another collab shows up! smile.gif

About the take:

Thank you for the tip about switching to the B-string for vibrato, and i will work on my vibrato and bending.
About the silence, it became a little longer than planned.
Next time I will try to process the take a little bit more, removing fuzz and stuff, recording inside a take.

Thank you for the sound-compliment. I use a Pod X3 Live, with some mildly tweaked Marcus Lavendell-preset and a trebly Metallica-preset in dual mode. The Metallica one I made myself, and the lavendell one I found here. I turned off the reverb and delay before recording tho, because I dont know how to do it later.

-Sondre

and thanks again! smile.gif You are doing a fantastic job!

PS: My name is a norwegian one. The 'e' is like en beg. You said it right the first time i think.

Hahah, but if you bring $50.000 home from a 1 month tour I don't think you'd be geeting such comments smile.gif I think she would send you to another one straight after smile.gif Especially if you make it to a TV or charts.
