I don't know if anyone has noticed, but Ernie Ball has come out with a line of coated, titanium reinforced Slinkys. They claim to have the same feel as traditional.

You're supposed to be able to enter a drawing for lifetime supply of strings, but I can't find anything clickable on the page.

That's weird, I can't find anything either. laugh.gif

I'm not a big fan of Ernie Balls, actually. Maybe it's just me, but I've had nothing but bad luck with them. Almost every set I've gotten has broken, and other than these, I've almost never had a broken string. Could just be my experience, though, I don't know.

Haven't tried them yet but my son uses them. He likes the feel of them and they last longer. He never liked Ernie Ball before but I think he will stick to these.

I refuse to use Ernie Ball strings again. They were the most useless strings I've ever used. My D'addario strings last months on end whereas the Ernie Balls lasted about 14 days. Pathetic.

I'm using those exact strings at the moment, and have another guitar rigged up with the Elixir coated strings.

I can tell that they both are very different, Elixir have a visible coating on the strings while the ernie ball ones do not, yet they both appear to remain clean and very playable.

The EB's don't feel as slick and smooth but that might be a good point to many players.

I prefer the Elixir's still I think, but these are a good alternative for me.

I will play nothing else than those strings if they sound like the normal Ernie Balls! Can't beat their Rock tone!

Being a private guitar instructor, I play guitar every day of the week for about 5-6 hours. No way would ANY pack of strings last more than a month anyways.

But I like those Ernie strings. Still prefer the supers though.

I love using ernie ball strings for my basses...They sound much better and last longer preserving "new strings" tone....This new line seems very interesting...Can't find the link for contest though wink.gif

IMHO new set of strings is a new set of strings. Oxidation of the strings can be prevented with the coating so Elixir or these strings can be good for that. But when a time for the gig/recording comes, you have to change them anyway, because they are stretched out, worn above the frets and loosing sustain and pitch. But titanium reinforcement sounds cool to me, so this is something that definitely needs a test run. Thanks for the info mate! smile.gif

That is exactly what I wanted to know, if they were intended to compete with Elixir, and it sounds like they are not. The more choices the better I guess. I'm going to try them at next re-string.

I use Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky 9-46 they work great. They can't last more than 2-3 weeks but that's ok, they are designed to be like that.
