Hi,

I was going to get some headphones for my amp but before I got one I seen some around £40 or so, but will they be good enough to hear the tone from my gear (its all in the sig).

Thanks,

Rowan

I use sennheiser eh 250 headphones, they're quite good and very comfortable. They are not as "accurate" as my inears but in return the sound more open and as said are more comfortable. Because they are closed they've got more lowend which I like when playing guitar.

Not for your amp, it doesn't have a headphone out. For the POD though.
Some AKG is all I can recomment. It's a matter of taste really, lots of people like Sennheiser but I'm not too fond of any of their affordable models. Like I said, it's a matter of taste so best if you can try them on before you buy.

I have some wireless Sein's, and they sound fairly good. They were about $100 cdn, so I think that's around 40 pounds.

Yes!
Some could use a headphone amp to sound the best. Depending on their impedance.

Yes Kaz, if the output is labeled as "Headphone Out" then any headphones can be used. These outputs have big impendance values and put out low current. Usually the type of headphones you use will determine how loud the signal is. Smaller impendance headsets with 40-150Ohms will sound louder but are more sensitive, while more professional headphones will have higher impendance which means they need more power to operate. Because guitar amp is a high power device that drives much stronger speakers than headphones, you can plug in any impendance headphone into headphone out and bring the signal to a comfortable listening level.

Thanks man, love this forum smile.gif

So do you have any recommedations on a certain one I should get, I dont know how much I should roughly spend.

I just want one that means I can have the same quality as when I listen to it without headphones so I can play till the "wee hours".

I'm pretty sure you can't use headphones for your Peavey if that was the idea, I don't belive it has a headphones out. Since you refered to the amp in your sig that must be the one, right?

Yes MickeM is right, you can't really plug in the headphones into ValveKing since it doesn't have Headphones Out. You can plug them into POD Live and play like that, it is still a good solution for quiet practicing.

Again I post two recommendations that fit in the price range.

http://www.iheadphones.co.uk/headphones/22...ica+ATH-M20.htm

http://www.iheadphones.co.uk/headphones/23788/AKG+K514.htm

BTW - DO NOT plug the headphones into external speaker out, it will blow the headphones or amp or both.

I agree with Ivan anout the AKG 514s, I have them and I'm pleased with them. I used them with my pod when it's late at night and they give the same kind of sound monitors provide, natural, uncolored and open. They are open headphones (they are not isolating), so maybe they aren't your cup of tea if you need isolating the 512s might serve you better if I remember correctly smile.gif

+1 on AKGs mentioned above..They should give you good and natural sound response from you POD..You can't use them on your amp since it doesn't have headphones out...But using headphones on POD is a great quiet practicing solution!

If you've got a pod (or similar device) and an effect loop on your amp you can use the effect loop to feed them amp signal to the pod which will then add a speaker simulation and output the processed signals to your headphones. It won't sound like the real thing but, far better than the cheap headphone jacks on an amp. One more thing, your amp still needs to have speakers (or another load) connected to it. Otherwise you might fry it.

I bought the Sennheizer HD415 from my work for £35

They seem to be good so far, dont need the amp turned on this is just when the pod is on and its connected to the pod.

But it seems like it doesnt hold a sustain, im not sure if its the headphones or the guitar cause my lead is a little faulty.

When you listen to the pod through the amp, the sound is getting colored by the amp. That might be the reason you hear the tone different now, you are listening to the Pod's pure sound. You might need to tweak your pod settings again to get the tones you wish.
