Oh man, I really enjoyed the 2nd mix. smile.gif I'm listening at work so I had to listen to all 3 again with these speakers to get a good comparison and I definitely prefer the 2nd one! smile.gif Nice job! Save that FX chain!

Hey thanks Steve. I thought you would have went for the 3rd track because that is where I cut more Mid's out.

'Clicks and Saves' smile.gif

We'll see how thing go with the final upload. cool.gif

You should try working with just the beginning of the song. It is a great exercise and will teach you vibrato control and feel. Thinks about it! smile.gif

Just goes to show it really does matter what you are listening through. After I got home tonight, I listened to all 3 again through my studio headphones and monitors. Listening through my headphones (Samson CH70), I preferred the 3rd take, through my monitors (KRK RP5's) I liked the 2nd better. unsure.gif

Before I post a final take, I usually find a happy medium between the two and hope everyone enjoys. smile.gif Not always the case.. sad.gif laugh.gif

I struggle with the same thing. I have a set of speakers I Payed like $20 bucks for about 10 years ago. Most of the time I listen to everything through that. I figure if it sounds good that way then everything might be alright.

I also have a nice set of head phones (Sennheiser HD 280 Pro) but when I mix with them then everything sounds like crap through my other speakers an also my families PC's.

Big pain in the butt! smile.gif

laugh.gif So true man. I've almost went solely with the headphones with the thought "it is what it is" If I play with mixes to much, I end up making them worse or after a few hours, I end up right back where I started.. blink.gif

Yeah man, that's me.. biggrin.gif I've learned the lesson just need to tighten up some spot's. I must say, there's a lot going on in here. Between the muted notes and fast rhythm, to keeping it clean, I see why it's a 5 rated lesson.

Video coming soon! smile.gif

This is a really, really good take Steve! I can't wait to see your REC upload. tongue.gif

Listen back to it though. Their are a few timing issues in the beginning and towards the end with your take. Sounds like latency so maybe try to drag your guitar track back on the time line (to the left) just a little. See if that helps.

Great job man! smile.gif

Thanks Jeff! biggrin.gif As for the timing, that's not latency, it's me, I'm still off a bit in some sections. I want to nail this lesson perfectly before I upload a video. When I can play it several times back to back with no mistakes, then I'll get out the camera... laugh.gif

I've nailed it a couple times already and tried video earlier, just not quite there yet. Should be soon though! All in the practice...

That sounds great Steve! No worries, I know you'll nail it! smile.gif You and I both know everything changes when you hit the video record button. wink.gif Just do like 10 takes in a row. One will be perfect enough I'm sure.

You didn't use the latency as an excuse for your timing. That's a very cool quality to have. Always be honest with yourself and what you hear when you play your recordings back.

I guess I'll just sit here and wait now smile.gif Hurry up!

Sorry to keep you waiting man, and yeah, I stay honest to myself. It's the only way I feel I will progress. Just don't want to do things half dollar for the sake of a passing grade.. smile.gif

I'll send you a 6 package for your time waiting..May be an 18 though when it shows up... unsure.gif laugh.gif

Hey Steve, sorry for not being around for a few days. I had a few things going on I needed to deal with. Everything is ok now though.

I really loved your REC upload. Great job man! smile.gif tongue.gif

Everyone has given you some great comments and the only thing I can add is this. Just think about your right hand when you're playing a heavy rhythm riffing piece like this. That's what made the timing off in the middle coming out of the chord change. Just my opinion though. I find it easier to work a riff like this working a relaxed right hand (back and forth ) and just to make sure I accent the down stroke on the the right beat.

Your tone was spot on also! Great job man!

Thanks Jeff and you are absolutely right. Being relaxed is most difficult for me and especially when the camera is on. Believe it or not, I'm even working on breathing to keep the tension down.. laugh.gif

Hey Steve,

I was thinking it would be nice to work on the same lesson together at the same time! What do you think?
This is one that I believe we can learn a lot from and have some fun with. Also there will be plenty of opportunities for us to discuss some theory basics and note choices. smile.gif
