After I got home tonight, I listened to all 3 again through my studio headphones and monitors. Listening through my headphones (Samson CH70), I preferred the 3rd take, through my monitors (KRK RP5's) I liked the 2nd better. I have a set of speakers I Payed like $20 bucks for about 10 years ago. Most of the time I listen to everything through that. I figure if it sounds good that way then everything might be alright. I also have a nice set of head phones (Sennheiser HD 280 Pro) but when I mix with them then everything sounds like crap through my other speakers an also my families PC's. Big pain in the butt! I've learned the lesson just need to tighten up some spot's. I must say, there's a lot going on in here. Between the muted notes and fast rhythm, to keeping it clean, I see why it's a 5 rated lesson. Their are a few timing issues in the beginning and towards the end with your take. Sounds like latency so maybe try to drag your guitar track back on the time line (to the left) just a little. As for the timing, that's not latency, it's me, I'm still off a bit in some sections. I want to nail this lesson perfectly before I upload a video. When I can play it several times back to back with no mistakes, then I'll get out the camera... I've nailed it a couple times already and tried video earlier, just not quite there yet. You and I both know everything changes when you hit the video record button. Just do like 10 takes in a row. One will be perfect enough I'm sure. You didn't use the latency as an excuse for your timing. That's a very cool quality to have. Always be honest with yourself and what you hear when you play your recordings back. Everyone has given you some great comments and the only thing I can add is this. Just think about your right hand when you're playing a heavy rhythm riffing piece like this. That's what made the timing off in the middle coming out of the chord change. Just my opinion though. I find it easier to work a riff like this working a relaxed right hand (back and forth ) and just to make sure I accent the down stroke on the the right beat. Your tone was spot on also!
