Hi there guys!

I`m planning on buying cubase very soon, and I`ll also order EZ drummer most likely as well with time. But there are some things I`m wondering about.

1. If any of you has experience with Guitar Pro, you probably knows how to add drums there. You just changes the note value of for example the bassdrum or the snare, and you insert it as you like. Is that possible in EZ drummer or how do you make a beat from scratch?

2. Can you trigger the different drums with anything but a midi keyboard? Btw, do I have to play the full beat as I want it when recording, or can I record each drum single?

3. I`m going to make a lot of hardrock and metal beats. Is the original EZ drummer okay to start with or should I buy the drumkit from hell at the same time?

And please, feel free to recommand other drumsoftwares if you want. I`m thinking about the EZ because it seems easy and I can get it pretty cheap.

(If I forgot something I`ll just edit the post smile.gif )

See you guys wink.gif

I use EZDrummer.

You write your lines in midi.

Each note in midi is for a different drum on the kit.

You can write them in realtime with a midi controller. or via your mouse via point and click.

Take a look at Grooze Monkee. TONS of nice rock/metal midi clips for easy importing into your DAW and using with EZDrummer.

Since ezdrummer comes with allot of really great midified real drum recordings you can just drag and drop these files in a midi track in your DAW and assign the output to an audio track where you insert the ezdrummer. In the basic version you get some good rock, blues, funky grooves that you can easily tweak. Just double click on the midi file you put into the midi track and if your DAW has a piano roll mode you can easily add hits or delete them in the midi editing mode. Or just write a midi track from scratch in your piano roll mode or midi editor in your DAW. One little problem arises if you program your drum track in Guitar Pro and import it as a midi file in cubase. EZdrummer unfortunately doesn't use the exact GM mapping. So some of the hits will be assigned to the wrong drums. But you can fix that later in Cubase in the midi editor. If you want really a nice library of midi drum files you should get some of the extension packs. Or buy another program like Adictive Drums with comes with a little more basic content. I like EZ drummer better though.

Hello!

1. With EzDrummer, you make a midi track in cubase and edit it.You will be able to select a "Drum stick" mouse pointer and by clicking in the midi staff program your drum beat. You don't have to do it in real time, its not that hard to learn how to input drum beats via mouse. Each note will represent different part of the drum kit and you will have clear guide lines for 8th notes , 16th notes etc...

2. You can input via mouse..You don't have to play it , just write it down kick by kick in the midi editor (note values are well represented in there).

3. Ez drummer standard will be okay , especially if you won't be using its internal pre made drum beats..But for a metal drum kit sound and lots of rock/metal pre made drum beats , drum kit from hell is a good add-on to think about.

With EZ Drummer alone you can't draw anything. It's just a VST Instrument that plays MIDI tracks. Since you are buying Cubase, in Cubase you will draw MIDI track with notes, and assign the EZ Drummer to that track. EZ Drummer follows GM mapping, so it is very flexible, you can assign any MIDI file to it, and it will play. In addition to that, EZD has premade grooves that will be very handy sometimes - you just drag&drop them on the MIDI track in Cubase.

You can trigger anything with EZD of course, any MIDI track or device that has MIDI output can be assigned to EZD and it will play the MIDI (notes) that you feed it. You can record everything separately if you want, it's up to you how you will draw and type the MIDI, the possibilites very wide. You can even use VST MIDI plugins that allow you to automatically arpeggiate and sequence the notes that you type. For example you can type C, D, C, D (kick, snare, kick, snare) and the software will generate a whole bunch of other notes.

Drumkit from hell is much better for metal, since it has drum samples for metal, and more important, metal grooves library.

there's Addictive drums that is good as well in that price range. Also you can upgrade EZD with other banks cheap, there are 5-6 of them.

You can just paste a track that you find useful from EZD and edit it.

EZD has the possibility to connect with drum pads and e-drumset, AD has annouced to have it but I'm not sure it's in place yet. AD user would maybe know.

Good question MickeM.

I never tried it since I don't have e-set but don't see why it should be a problem,
midi mapping varies from every VST so setting midi options
inside of e-sit is probably the way to do it, just guessing. smile.gif
