I use EZDrummer.
You write your lines in midi. Each note in midi is for a different drum on the kit. You can write them in realtime with a midi controller. or via your mouse via point and click. Take a look at Grooze Monkee. With EzDrummer, you make a midi track in cubase and edit it.You will be able to select a "Drum stick" mouse pointer and by clicking in the midi staff program your drum beat.You don't have to do it in real time, its not that hard to learn how to input drum beats via mouse.Each note will represent different part of the drum kit and you will have clear guide lines for 8th notes , 16th notes etc... 2. You can input via mouse..You don't have to play it , just write it down kick by kick in the midi editor (note values are well represented in there). 3. Ez drummer standard will be okay , especially if you won't be using its internal pre made drum beats..But for a metal drum kit sound and lots of rock/metal pre made drum beats , drum kit from hell is a good add-on to think about. -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net

With EZ Drummer alone you can't draw anything. It's just a VST Instrument that plays MIDI tracks. Since you are buying Cubase, in Cubase you will draw MIDI track with notes, and assign the EZ Drummer to that track. EZ Drummer follows GM mapping, so it is very flexible, you can assign any MIDI file to it, and it will play. In addition to that, EZD has premade grooves that will be very handy sometimes - you just drag&drop them on the MIDI track in Cubase. QUOTE 2. You can trigger anything with EZD of course, any MIDI track or device that has MIDI output can be assigned to EZD and it will play the MIDI (notes) that you feed it. You can record everything separately if you want, it's up to you how you will draw and type the MIDI, the possibilites very wide. You can even use VST MIDI plugins that allow you to automatically arpeggiate and sequence the notes that you type. You can just paste a track that you find useful from EZD and edit it.
EZD has the possibility to connect with drum pads and e-drumset, AD has annouced to have it but I'm not sure it's in place yet. AD user would maybe know. -------------------- My bands homepage

I never tried it since I don't have e-set but don't see why it should be a problem, midi mapping varies from every VST so setting midi options inside of e-sit is probably the way to do it, just guessing.
