I dont know what going on.

On my soloist, (original floyd/locking nut) tuned to C, (12's) I'm noticing that the strings are making a sort of warbling/cycling noise.

I pluck an open string (as if tuning with a tuner) and it doesnt ring evenly. It cycles up and down, rouond and round....

What causes this?

The strings arent that old....

Also when playing if I get up to the 7-10th frets or so on the low strings the tone really changes. It almost sounds like there is a bit of flanger turned on....

HELP!!!!!!

I'm glad you asked this cause I'm having the same problem but higher up the neck, (around the 12 fret).

I was wondering if my strings are just catching a fret causing a false harmonic? Or my intonation is out but it seems fine when I check it on a electronic tuner.

Edit:- oh btw I'm using a Fender Strat with locking nut and a floyd rose style trem.

I think crazyfret has it. I think the string is JUST barely touching a fret and causing the slightest of fret buzz. Try raising up the action just a bit to see if it goes away. If it does, it may be time for a setup. The necks on these things move around quite a bit at change of seasons! At least mine do!

I had this problem not long ago. For me, the pups did it: they were too close to the strings. The cycling sound only became obvious when I was messing with different distortions and gain setting with my amp OR in gearbox when recording. Try to adjust action, try to fiddle with gain settings and experiment with the pickup height! smile.gif

I am a strong beleiver now in just having a pro set it up for you now. After my debacle with my Ibanez I will never attempt to set up my axe anymore. He quickly got my new Schecter after seeing how he set it up.

Leave it to the pro's.
