How's it going? I'm a college student who was forced to go out on a one year medical deferment. I won't get into too many details, but the worst of it is behind me now, and I have 8 MONTHS to practice the guitar for at least 10 hours a day. I know that's not that much practice time compared to most people here, but I began playing the guitar after I started college, not before.

I've been playing acoustic guitar for about 1 year now, but I really want to start playing electric blues and classic rock. I made the mistake of assuming most of the tone comes from the electric guitar and not the amp (I played acoustic guitar first, remember?)... so uh... I sold my car (couldn't use it for 8 months anyway), bought a used Gibson SG Standard, and spent about $50 on a Crate amp. Big Mistake! Oh well... I'd rather practice on a guitar I feel comfortable with and upgrade the amp later.

I'm not a complete beginner at playing the guitar, but I know almost nothing about electric guitar. My speed goals aren't set very high, mainly because I like bands along the lines of ZZ Top, George Thorogood, Led Zeppelin, BB King, Carlos Santana, Buddy Guy, and AC/DC. That's some pretty good blues rock, but it's nowhere close to "shred guitar". I respect players like Malmsteen and Vai, but I have no desire to play like that. wink.gif

Anyway, I'll be hanging around here a lot for the next 8 months. These lessons are great! The backing tracks by themselves are just as good as the licks played over them. Great work and Rock on!

Thanks mate. So far, so good.

Who would have thought that playing the guitar would double as physical therapy? I have to admit, I love modern medicine! cool.gif
